If this is true (still just a strong rumor). Here are my thoughts:

1. Good luck to him, wish him the best. Utah is a step up, so a congratulations are in order.

2. I hate to see people sign a contract then leave right away, but I get that people have to do what is best for themselves.

3. In the short term, there are lots of good people in Athletics that will keep the department moving forward. No panic about the time until another AD is hired. (and there may be some internal candidates there too who would do an excellent job)

4. In addition to the great internal candidates (Barry Clemens is on top of that list) are former Athletics employees who would be good fits too like Scott Glaser (currently #2 at USF Alumni Association) and Rob Higgins.

5. This job will draw interest for a talented pool of candidates. USF isn't the best job in the country, but it is still a very good job.

I would add Andrew Goodrich and Scott Kull to that list of possible candidates.  I asked Scott when he was here when he'd become our AD?  He seemed kind of shocked that I asked but I am hopeful we hire from within for continuity.  Barry has been here forever and is well deserving. Great guy and a bourbon lover.

My wife is dancing around the house singing Happy Days are Here Again.  Okay we're old.

I thought of you first when I heard the news. Hopefully this is a new beginning for you and the university...and thanks for all you have already done!

Although we're still Iron Bulls we cut back a bit this year.  Wish we contributed enough to have input.

For those that are happy about this, be careful what you wish for.

I was just about to post the same thing.

Harlan was doing a good job so I hate to see him go....

I'm hoping we get Rob Higgins. Alum and very well connected locally. We're going to need that to get the IPF funded and maybe an OCS.

Priorities ......

Definitely. He locked up the UF games and saved the department $50k. Solid work for a guy with one foot out the door.

I, too, thought of you Bourbon.  If we hire the right guy, I hope you and your wife are 100% back in.  You've been such a great supporter of our Bulls and it was tough to read some of your comments over the last year as I truly thought you might disappear from the board, the stands and the donor rolls.  Thank you!
