That was a conference rule, not an NCAA rule?

Or does the SEC now get to override any NCAA rule they wish?

That’s why it is called P5 autonomy brother:

NCAA transfer rules sit out one year
The new school may or may not match financial aid offered by the student-athlete's original school. Student-athletes who transfer must sit out of competition for one year, although many student-athletes qualify for exceptions allowing them to begin competing immediately.

Guys - you are misunderstanding. Transfers still have to sit out a year, but there are exceptions.

One exception is a graduate can transfer and play immediately to go to grad school. If you went to one of our men's basketball games last year, 60% of our starting lineup was this category.

The SEC doesn't want kids to transfer from one SEC school to another, so they made an extra strict rule, saying grad transfer have to sit out a year.

Today they repealed their extra strict rule and simply now enforce the NCAA rule.

Oh ok...thanks. The way this is reading in articles on line they don’t have to sit out.

The two of you have no idea what any of this means.

No, I get it now. Autonomy is directed at the athletes in terms of making decisions regarding paying them, rules regarding scholarship limits, time demands, and  health issues. My initial thought was that this was going to carry over to transfer rules and override the NCAA rule of an athlete sitting out a year. I see that is not the case...based on Stuben’s comments. However, at some point autonomy my grow further than just athletes needs...

Only way you can overstep NCAA rules is if you leave the NCAA.
