If anything this is proof that Alabama didn't belong in the playoff since they have a weak SOS, a loss, and no conference title. FPI is a made up ESPN ranking so of course it will favor the teams they have in their playoff. Florida is a top 50 FPI. Florida State is top 20. You think those are good victories. Also Memphis lost by 1 to push them (barely) out of the top 25. Top 25 is an arbitrary cutoff. Alabama gets credit for 6 loss Florida State who needed to beat 3 cupcakes at the end to get a winning record, but you can disregard UCF's 3 wins over 10 win teams in USF and Memphis because of some ESPN FPI formula?

These are Florida State's wins

Southern Miss

Wake Forest

Duke

Syracuse

Delaware State

Florida

Louisiana Monroe

I don't respect the current playoff system, so UCF raising a banner makes as much sense to me.

The only thing Alabama did wrong (other than losing the Iron Bowl) was injuring Francois. It was pretty clear there was a lot of dysfunction around the coaching staff, but if the starting QB doesn't go down they finish ranked above USF.

If you prefer Jeff Sagarin.

Alabama - 4-1 vs. top 30, 47 schedule

Clemson - 7-1 vs. top 30, 4 schedule

Oklahoma - 6-2 vs. top 30, 6 schedule

Georgia - 4-1 vs. top 30, 18 schedule

UCF - 1-0 vs. top 30, 72 schedule

Why an arbitrary cutoff at 30? Is Memphis 31 or something? If you make the cutoff 41 then UCF is 4-0 and Alabama is 4-1. The point is Alabama has a loss. I'm not saying UCF is a top 4 team, but their resume is practically the same as Alabama who didn't even win their conference and backed into the CFP.

This is the ultimate fairy tale, UCiF maneuver from Mouseland.  The fact that they're doing this makes how the season went a little less painful.  Sure they had a great season but from a marketing perspective, this hurts their brand and alienates them even more from the blue bloods and P5 honks.

I made the cutoff at 30 because I give zero fucks about UCF and 30 was what Sagarin had on his site. My research is limited to 1 click.

Good. That's pretty much the consensus on here ...

Claiming a natty is laughable. Have a parade - you had a great season. Putting up a national champions banner and going to Disney world? Overkill.

This is similar to the hastiness of building that garbage stadium, putting up a statue of their old coach (who didn't really win them much)and practically whoring themselves to the Big 12 last year. They are trying too hard yet again. Except this time, the whole country is watching them now.

This takes away from the accomplishment because it comes off as too desperate and it certainly won't earn the respect of the P5 circles that they need to be impressing to get to the big boy table.

They're trying to make a statement here and they are. Showing the country that they are overzealous, delusional, and very foolish.

Danny White is showing that UCFs idiocy is rubbing off on him.

UCF national champs? Florida lawmakers could declare it so

Florida lawmakers are being asked to take action the College Football Playoff Committee won’t: Declare UCF national champions.

Kevin Cate, a Democratic consultant and Auburn University graduate, tweeted this week that lawmakers should consider a resolution declaring UCF national champions after it knocked off Auburn 34-27 in the Peach Bowl on New Year’s Day.

On Twitter, the idea gained support from Rep.Amber Mariano, R-Dunedin, a UCF graduate; Rep. Kionne McGhee, D-Miami; and Sen. Oscar Branyon II, D-Miami Gardens.

Surprise, surprise that FSU and UF legislators are not interested in doing that. LOL

“I vote HELL YES,” wrote UCF graduate Piccolo in an email. “The Gators and Seminoles here [in Tallahassee] are not keen on it. But I am still working on them.”
