THE **** PENALTIES!!!!

We are up by twenty in the third and the offense is moving along as well as I have seen all year then BOOM, chop block. Puts us in a throwing situation and where Q throws an interception. The penalties this year have come at the absolute worst time (goal line). It is amazing how the offensive line has the brain farts.

I agree that penalties have been the biggest problem for this team and a lot of them can be avoided. The chop block calls last night were tough though. On that particular play that you mentioned, the tackle fell and the guard pancaked his guy over top of him, it happens. Chalk that up to bad timing. Overall though, the team has to be better at keeping hands out of face masks and out out jerseys. At least we are lining up right now.

Refs were calling a tight game.  Lots of holding calls on Tulane.  We only had 7 penalties versus 12 for Tulane.

The two chop block calls were both just awful calls by the refs and killed two drives. Not a discipline issue in this particular case. First one was a perfectly legal cut block in the tackle box by Mayes (LT). He came from in front of the player not behind. Second one, Norman (RT) fell over blocking the LE and Atterbury (RG) blocking the DT pushed him over Norman. Norman did not try to block the DT he was just laying on the ground.

I thought the first one was when Tice tried to cut the Blitzing LB and the LG tried to come back and pick him up and engaged his upper half. That's a penalty. Tice has to come in head up at the line of scrimmage, cut if they make it through.

Yep.  I felt really bad for Tulane yesterday morning.  We were on campus and talked to a couple students who had no idea there was a game that night.  I think Bulls fans outnumbered Wave fans in the seats.  With our corner and those that got tickets on the visitor side 50 yardline section, I'd guess there were over 3,000 of us.  The Tulane home side was EMPTY, maybe 10% of the seats had people in them.  Either no one goes to their games or the Glazer Club is REALLY nice to hang out in.  Had to be maybe 1,000 students there at the beginning of the 2nd quarter and most of them bailed at half time.  Nice to know it's not just us.  Did you see the Miami stands yesterday?

FSU stands were also quite sparse.

The American conference refs call the most ticky tacky penalties in the NCAA.... a number of the blocking and holding flags wouldn't be thrown in other conferences in my opinion.

The conference would have less flags if they called the game like the SEC or ACC.

Or like the old Big East basketball refs, whose motto was "Let them play!"
