What UCF is doing with the championship thing is genius. This raises more awareness that the current playoff is unfair and should be changed. The more people that protest this the better it puts pressure in the status quo.

Another way to look at it: the National Championship game is four days away against two blue bloods of college football and the only talk that is going on is about ucf. Mama Espin must be totally pissed.

There's no such thing as bad publicity.

I know Houston beat #3 Oklahoma and #3 Louisville last year in the regular season, but am not sure there have been many other matchups against top 10 P5. Tulane lost to #2 Oklahoma this year. Memphis beat #13 Ole Miss in 2015. Would be tough to compile a record and not sure it would mean much since you are talking all of G5 vs the top 10 teams. I doubt even P5 teams would have a very favorable record against top 10 teams in general. I think the bowl record is a better indicator.

Neither one is a good indicator. One because there's not really a whole lot of data to look at, reg season games pitting fairly comptetent G5 teams against top 10 P5's. The other because bowl games are rife with matchups where both teams aren't at near the same emotional level. This was the biggest game in the history of the Kanigit football program where Auburn watched 2 of the teams they had wins against this year go to the playoffs while they got relegated to the NY6 booby prize bowl. Another example was UCF's bowl game last year. They got blown out by Arkansas.... STATE, that only had one more win than UCF did, while playing in the might Sun Belt. So they go from being the Sun Belt champion's ***** to "national champions" in one year ...... non-playoff bowls aren't really good indicators of anything.

Now their AD is giving all of the coaching staff championship bonuses as dictated by their contract. Yeah, they are going hard core on this.

All those coaches who are leaving?

Yeah, THAT's money well spent.

Board needs to rein in that lunacy.

All this does now is raise the bar for any other non P5 school to do if they go undefeated.

Perhaps the AAC should claim the National Football Championship for the conference on its Wiki page like UCF has done. LOL

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/03/sports/central-florida-claims-a-national-title-want-to-fight-about-it.html

By Wednesday, Wikipedia — perhaps the only factual authority still widely accepted in 2018 — identified Central Florida’s claimed national title.
