Excerpt:

IF THE SEASON STARTED TODAY: Sunday's first-team defense featured Nichols, Wilkins and Hampton at the corners, with Thomas and Devin Abraham at safety. MLB Auggie Sanchez was flanked by WLB Nico Sawtelle, with the front featuring ends Greg Reaves and Mike Love, and tackles Bruce Hector and Kevin Bronson.

"Mike (Hampton) is coming along quite well," Adams said. "He's done some things in the spring, and then he's continued to do some great things, as is Mazzi. Ronnie (Hoggins) is doing some good things, so I think overall the guys are taking the next progressions...in order to get better."

Wow no Hoggins at first team; Hampton has really come along.

What happened to Baynes, or was it Bayes? Super hyped recruit? Was expecting something from this guy.

If I am correct, you are talking about Jimmy Bayes. 3/4* ATH out of Immokalee with offers from multiple P5 schools. Since enrolling as a Bulls he has done the following:

2016: Appeared in one game, a 48-17 victory over Northern Illinois on Sept. 10.

2015: Appeared in five games on the season playing special teams and linebacker.

2014: A redshirt season, Bayes added 40 pounds to his 6-3 frame in the weight room to practice at 225 in his first season on campus.

I read that he got beat in practice a few times too. If he hasn't done something by now, we can pretty much bet he's not going to pan out to be a whole lot for the team.

It's kind of strange to see USF with zero depth at LB

My hope  is Senat plays a major role on the D.

A little surprised no Hoggins, Fullwood or Senat mentioned in that article about starters. Also, first time I heard Reaves mentioned.

First week of training camp I never read too much into things a coach says. Sometimes its a coach sending a message that a guy needs to step the effort up a couple of notches.

I don't know how strong handles it, but in the past, during the second week, we would hear how awful a unit is and if the season started today we couldn't field a team. Usually motivational mind games.

With Sanchez and Sawtelle, do we have much speed at LB? that used to be a hallmark of USF defense.

Did nobody notice the big surprise at DT?

That was indeed a surprise. Hoping it's nothing serious, we need him to be at his best.
