-Around the same time as that announcement, Harlan came out with the announcement that we scheduled a H&H with SJSU. We all pontificated that his former west coast ties with UCLA helped facilitate this arrangement and also the fact that USF hasn't played West of Texas in over a decade.

I'm too lazy to look up the date, but Nevada was in 2012, right?

FYI - The NCAA set up a rule years ago to allow teams to play an extra regular season game if they played a road game in Hawaii. The rule helped Hawaii schedule home games, because it struggled to get teams to make the long trip.

The NCAA also set up a rule allowing teams who play 13 regular season games to play a week earlier.

I am pretty sure San Jose is playing at Hawaii, took advantage of the opportunity to play an extra game, and is using it's 13 game regular season schedule to allow the game to be played in week 0.

We had to agree to the date change, by the way. San Jose didn't force that on us.

It is allowed to be played in Week 0 because of Hawaii/San Jose.  Mike S is right

Or are you saying that the NCAA has no decision on the week0 games, its the schools themselves who decide if the game is during week0 based on the 13 game schedule rule. If that's the case, i would think every school would want to do that.

Your op didn't mention the 0 week aspect, which I had no clue how it works, so I kind of understand now the questioning.... and it appears there have been some responses that may have possible answers.

Yes I know, but the NCAA allowed this game to be a week0, something to do with a 13 game schedule (must be counting the title game cause we only have 12 games scheduled, right?) . At any rate, this can't be the only game the NCAA was asked to allow as the week0 game. We can't be the only two schools who think, hey lets play a game when nothing else is going on right at the point of the summer where football freaks are starving the most.

You understand that it only takes one of the teams to have 13 regular season games, which is San Jose in this case. The title game doesn't count..... even though I do expect up to be playing in it.

The rule still applies to offset travel costs to get to Hawaii

Are you implying Nevada is west of Texas?
