I refuse to believe Jahad Thomas is faster than Mack.

I realize it's easy for an RB to get hurt easily, but I think it would be crazy for him to declare this year. His draft stock will be much better if he has another great season.

I find it odd that the only guy on this list that is labeled slower than Mack is the guy from Pitt who overcame cancer.

I think Mack is faster than SOME of the top 24 other possible RB picks. He's a second gear guy who doesn't get caught from behind often if ever.

The difference between 4.59 and 4.5 (which is still **** fast and VERY fast for even an above average DB in the AAC) is nothing. If Mack gets the edge and has a yard or two on the guy, he's not catching him over 40 yards mathematically at .10 difference in speed. The difference in Mack and an an above average LB is probably .10 going the other way and that means zero chance of catching him.

To catch a guy from behind with 40 yards between him and end zone and a two yard head start, you need to be running at least a 4.4 to catch up to Mack. Ain't happening. That's why you never saw it. In the 2016 combine, there were 7 defensive players total with the speed to catch him.

So I take it this was not the last day to declare?

Mack probably would be drafted much higher next year if he stays healthy. But that's obviously never guaranteed with RBs.

Nichols would potentially be making a Darrell Scott level bonehead decision by leaving.  I think he undoubtedly has NFL talent, but I do think another year would help him, hopefully with a coordinator who plays who calls a little more man coverage.

Why would the last day to declare for the draft be before the National Championship game?

Because nobody on the best two teams is NFL-worthy?

Or they should've figured it out by now? I'm all for he NFL changing the rule that if they don't get drafted they can decide to come back.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
