I hope we don't give him the bank. we could really be in trouble if we have to pay him off to leave like we did Holtz. He would be far more expensive

What's Miles up to? Did he visit yet? yeah a lot of these people don't understand the meaning of buy low and sell high. Strong is anything but automatic success. we will have to pay top dollar for him and the contract will be heavily favorable towards him. Risk reward ratio skewed toward risk. If he bombs we are screwed. We won't be able to afford his buyout. Bring in a low cost guy like JS from Clemson. Sign him to a smaller "prove yourself" contract. If he works then bump him or sell him off to another program willing to pay his buyout. if not then he won't cost us an arm and leg to buyout. SJT Posted December 9, 2016 Group: Member Topic Count: 1 Content Count: 124 Reputation: 4 Days Won: 0 Joined: 09/29/2013 Share Posted December 9, 2016 I am in the minority with my view, but I am not overly impressed with Charlie Strong's coaching record. His record was very impressive when he had Teddy Bridgewater (30 wins with 9 losses), but his overall record without him was 23-27. At Texas, Mack Brown had one loosing season in 16 seasons while Strong had three loosing seasons in three years. Mack Brown last four seasons were not great (5-7, 8-5,9-4,8-5), but they were still decent compared to how Strong did at Texas (6-7,5-7, and 5-7). I know he was "rebuilding" those last three years, but that is not an excuse to loose to a team like Kansas which was awful for the past decade. Btw, Kansas only won two games this season: against Rhode Island and Texas. I know he will recruit well and he will save USF a lot of money, but I just do not believe he is a good head coach. However, I hope I am wrong about Strong and he will do well here.

If Strong does not work out, I am not sure if getting someone with coaching experience or an up and comer is the way to go. We need to set ourselves up in hoping that we can get in the power conference when TV contracts are up. I'm all about guys like Larry or Jeff Scott, but is that smart? I don't know. I believe we need one with ties to FL for recruiting. Strong makes the most sense to me, but if it does not work out where do we go? Not a big fan of Kiffin or Schiano (he may stay longer). Holtz killled us and I think if we had continued to play well rather than suck that we may already be in a power 5 conference.
