I'm staying at the Embassy Suites (Manager's reception is nice).  Pretty decent rates.

I'm looking flying to Montgomery, which is about 1 hour, 20 min. drive according to Google and has a $335 r/t airfare.  You can also go to Atlanta for a little over $200 from Tampa (less than that if you want to subject yourself to Spirit Airlines).

Edit: http://www.kayak.com is a decent airfare site, as well as Orbitz and others.  It will let you know to wait, watch, or buy, depending on fare history.

It's only an 8hr drive from Tampa, and you gain an hour.(two tanks of gas there)  Soooooooo...for anyone thinking flying is cheaper, you're crazy.

I'll be there staying with friends and I'll try and pack as many Bulls in my car as possible!

GO BULLS!!!

I'm doing the drive solo. My normal partner went off to her new school(Got accepted a USF but didn't want to go :-( , chose FGCU). So, gonna take the time to clear my head, remember the good 'ole days when CJL was my hero and CSH wasn't destroying the program. I hope they have more than one beer line this time.

The area around Legion Field is not a good area.  I would stay closer to downtown or just south of downtown.

Staying at the Tutwiler Hampton Inn downtown. I would guess team hotels are most likely the Westin and Sheraton in Uptown as that is where the pep rally the day before the game is. I have stayed at both of those hotels and they are both what you would expect. There is a nice strip of restaurants in uptown just 1 Block from those hotels.

Booked both the Sheraton and Westin uptown.  I will cancel the reservation for which ever one turns out to be the hotel for Cocks.

For those that attended the bowl in 2006, it looks like Birmingham has revitalized the uptown area a bit since the last trip.  There is an entertainment district near the team hotels now, whereas last time that area was a ghost town.  5 Points, south of downtown, was the place to party 11 years ago, if I remember right.
