As someone who slaved at publix (small p) for years during high school, let me set the record straight.

(1) publix sucks.

(2) The sandwiches are pretty good cold.

(3) Some of the girls are hot.

As someone who's shopped at Publix for 30+ years, and who was forced to do without it for 2 years, let me share my 2 cents:

1) Publix is true to its tag-line and gives customers what they want. Others grocers are made to eat gum from the bottom of Publix's shopping cart wheels.

2) The fried chicken is a cloud-9 sensation, and the subs make other grocers' subs look and taste like day-old convenience store hot dogs.

3) Smiles, a kind word, and help that seeks you out gets my love and my money more than Jessica Alba could ever hope...not that she needs either.

As someone who worked at Publix through high school and early college, then 'retired' after 5 years, moved across the country, and experienced many other grocery chains, there aren't many that compare to Publix.  I can only hope they expand to the great northwest...

We do have Zupan's here, which is on par with Publix, but pricier.

Dude. It's a grocery store. What skills were you bringing to the table that would have convinced them to pay you more? Seriously...my Publix employs "special" people and they are easily able to handle bagging my groceries so I can't see why you'd have expected a higher wage.
