Today was the first day of camp which seems to have wrapped up.  Figure we can use a thread to post news/info from either twitter or those in attendance.

We had a nice chat with former bull CB Bruce Gibson.

Small crowd was in attendance. I presume the weather (rain) had something to do with that.

We plan on attending again on Saturday.

Next time, we will try to situate ourselves closer to the main team action, for better viewing.

TAMPA, AUG. 4, 2016 – USF's 20th season of football started with players running past the present and back to the place where it all started.

Head coach Willie Taggart and his team rolled through the swanky Morsani Football Practice Complex and over to the fields where the Bulls first practiced in 1996 on Day 1 of fall camp. USF’s olriginal practice fields, located on the east end of campus, are now used by the university’s intramural programs.

“It’s making them understand there are a lot of guys that helped build this program, a lot of guys that came before them that didn’t have the things that they have now,” Taggart said. “I just want them to appreciate all the things and appreciate all those people that came before them.”

USF wasted no time making plays on both sides of the ball, much to the enjoyment of George Selvie and a group of former players on hand to watch that included Julian Johnson (LB, 1999-2003), Bruce Gipson (WR/DB, 2001-04), Ron Michel (WR, 2000-01), Ramon McCullough (DT, 2003-04) and Antonio Searcy (DL/OL, 2004).

“I’m excited to be back, especially with them coming down to these Sycamore fields where we used to practice,’ said Selvie, USF’s all-time sack leader with six years of NFL experience. “They have the nice fields with the turf now, but coming back to where it all started, it feels good and they get to learn tradition.”

They need to all pop in the 10 year anniversary DVD and see how it started. That is a pretty inspiring video.
