Lobo Lair listed former Virginia Tech coach and ESPN analyst Seth Greenberg and former UNLV coach Dave Rice as potential replacements.

We tried for Dave Rice last time and he turned them down at the last minute. I know someone retired from the UNLV athletic department who still is involved. He said they love Rice there and it would be a huge deal if he left. Did Masiello ever get his degree? Although he didn't have a great season last year.

As far as I am aware we (the uninformed masses) don't know if coach Antigua did or sanctioned anything in vioation of USF or NCAA rules.

If he did, then a buyout should not be needed to get rid of him.  If he didn't, then it seems like we are either cleaning things up for something like a Big 12 announcement, or it is just another wild rumor.

Go Bulls!

Or his brother took the fall for him and that coupled with the lack of winning made it an easy choice to get rid of him. Or even to appease the NCAA (see Butch Davis, UNC)

We hired the right-hand man for John Calipari, one of the best coaches in the NCAA.

It happens all the time.  In football, UGA just hired Kirby Smart, Nick Saban's right-hand man with no HC experience .  We don't know how it will turn out, but no one is saying, right now, that it is a bad hire.

At the time of the hire, it wasn't a bad move.

This.  It's easy to MMQB hires.  Not to move off topic, but Skip Holtz was a good hire AT THE TIME.  Obviously, it didn't work out, due in part to his inability to recruit in Florida.

Rice was fired from UNLV back in January and is now an Assistant Coach at Nevada. I'd have to think that this would be a tough role to hire for. The facilities are good, but who knows how many players we will be able to retain. They could essentially be starting from near scratch without considering any additional potential NCAA penalties.

At the time we wanted Dave Rice he was head coach of UNLV and his alma mater and now is an Asst coach at Nevada. I would say he is available. great recruiter and not terrible x and o's.

I might be in the extreme minority, but geez, I still want to hear his side of the story. I don't want to see him go yet... He recruited some really solid players, and I'd hate for the team to disassemble yet again.
