Well, we were the host school last year and, as a result, were expected to do well.

Here we were playing in a much more unfamiliar surrounding.

The two east coast southern teams we were paired with, FSU (+28) and WF (+31), seeded ahead of us, also didn't fare so well.

Koepka (+5) and Correa (+4) played well enough to advance.

Surpringingly, DiMarco (+11) performed much better than both Olsen (+19) and Fernandez (22).

We needed three players doing well, or four players doing decent to make the final fifteen teams and we didn't have that in this tourney.

The 15 team cut is +27. Five teams will be playing off for two spots. Houston bogeyed the last hole to finish at +28. FSU made a run with a hole in one near the end, but still came up short.

We finished at +36 (26th place).

8th place is +18.

Obviously, this has been a tough course for just about every team.

Hopefully, we can make it to the dance again next year.

Correa, Fernandez and DiMarco will return with another year of major college golf competition under their belt and will form the foundation for the team.

I'm looking forward in seeing how the incoming guys perform in the fall. One of them recently won a fairly big tourney.

Also, we have guys currently on the bench who will compete for a spot in the starting line-up. Too bad, that Fr Oskar B from Sweden who did well in the fall, but left school in the spring to turn pro won't be here and, his compatriot who also signed with us, at the same time, never made it to USF. As such, we lost our freshman class from last year and that makes it tougher starting out.

EUGENE, Ore., MAY 29, 2016 – USF’s sensational season came to an end in the third round of stroke play at the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships on Sunday.

In their return trip to the college golf’s biggest event, the Bulls (+36) finished in 26th place and nine shots outside of the tournament’s 54-hole cut. USF needed to finish Sunday’s round in the top 15 to advance to the final round of stroke play and matched its tournament best with an 11-over 291 score.

“Four team wins, four individual wins, four all-conference guys and we won the conference championship,” head coach Steve Bradley said. “There is so much good that can’t detract from what happened this week.”

Claudio Correa tied for 30th place at 4-over and finished just one shot away from advancing to the final round of stroke play as an individual. The sophomore PING All-Southeast Region selection ended with a 3-over 73 after opening with a 69 and 72.

“Claudio continues to be a good player and he’s a joy to be around,” Bradley said.

Chase Koepka tied for 36th place at 5-over and led the Bulls in their final round with an even-par 70 at Eugene Country Club. Also a PING All-Southeast Region pick, the senior from West Palm Beach ends his collegiate career as the program’s career leader with four tournament victories.

“He’s done so much for this program, buying in when nobody else bought in,” Bradley said. “The legacy he’s going to leave behind is going to be tough to match. He’s been a good teammate and awesome to coach. I’ve learned from him, he’s learned from me.”

First-year Bull Cristian DiMarco (+11) posted his best score of the tournament with a 1-over 71. The sophomore from Longwood, Fla., cut four shots off his opening-round score with a 73 on Saturday.

“This was the biggest tournament Cristian has ever played in and he got better each round,” Bradley said.

PING All-Southeast Region selection Aksel Olsen, a senior, finished at 19-over. Junior Rigel Fernandes finished at 22-over after carding consecutive rounds of 76 in the first two days of action.

“I’m extremely proud of the team,” Bradley said. “They fought, but they just didn’t have it this week. It happens in every sport. They tried every golf shot and that’s all you can ask as a coach.”

Good luck to Chase Koepka starting his professional career.

He received a  sponsor exemption on the PGA Canadian tour and will also be playing in the sectionals for the US Open.

Did anyone else see that Hossler kid from Texas finish his match with a separated shoulder???  His arm popped out on the 16th and he was able to par the last 3 holes swinging basically one handed.  On 18th the pain was so bad he had to use his putter to get out of the bunker.  What a competitor.

I don't know for sure. However, the Men's Golf team has a very good GPA and, I suspect, they all end up graduating, if they stay through their senior year.
