That's too bad.  If it was only 2 days we'd be moving on.  Oh well, now we just need to improve our seed tomorrow.  Go Bulls

Whether we finish first or fifth in this event, it doesn't matter for the NCAA finals.

Everybody there starts out even.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., MAY 17, 2016 – USF men’s golf has put itself in a position to book the program’s return trip to the NCAA Championship finals.

Third-seeded USF is in third place heading into Wednesday’s final round of the NCAA Albuquerque, N.M., Regional. The low five teams from each of the six regionals advance to the NCAA Championship finals that take place May 27-June 1 in Eugene, Ore.

“The key is going to be for them to not lose sight of where we are with our position,” head coach Steve Bradley said. “If you just look at the scores, they’re frustrated with it. But if you look at everybody else’s scores, everybody else is frustrated as well. I’d rather be in the position we’re in than kind of being outside the number.”

No. 11 Arizona State (+6) extended its lead in Tuesday’s second round and the second-seeded Sun Devils are followed in the top five by TCU (+21), USF (+24), No. 3 USC (+26) and Texas A&M (+27). Fourth-seeded San Diego State and host New Mexico are tied for sixth place at 29-over.

Weather conditions and New Mexico’s Championship Course (par-72, 7,555 yards) served as a difficult challenge for competitors, with two of 75 players shooting par or better in the second round. Tuesday’s scoring average among all 14 teams was 79.9 and only one hole played under par, with constant wind gusts at 25-35 mph.

“When we walked out of the hotel this morning, the wind was already whipping pretty good,” Bradley said. “We knew it was going to be pretty tough before we even got to the golf course.”

Claudio Correa and Aksel Olsen posted USF’s best scores of the day with 5-over 77’s. Correa opened the tournament with a 73 and moved up to a tie for 12 place with teammate Chase Koepka at 6-over. Olsen moved up 15 spots to a tie for 20th place at 8-over.

Rigel Fernandes shared the lead heading into the second round and is currently tied for fifth at 4-over (69-79). Arizona State’s Jon Rahm (-4) will take a four-shot lead into the final round.

Bradley said the Bulls are preparing to face more tough weather conditions in Wednesday’s final round. USF will tee off from the front nine at 10:45 a.m. (EST) and fans can access live scoring HERE.

“The indication right now is the weather is going to be very similar tomorrow as it was today, even some possibilities of rain,” Bradley said. “We need to hit the reset button, try to forget about today and go concentrate on tomorrow. We’ve got one round to continue our season and I have no doubt we’ll come out and answer the bell.”

It won't be nearly as windy today, according to the weather forecast. But, they predict some thunderstorms in the morning and through parts of the afternoon.

Bulls opening red hot through first 4 holes, currently 5 under par and two shots off 2nd place. Looks like they're motivated to make a big push today.
