USF Track & Field Wraps Up Regular Season

Sprinters Francis, Davis run personal best times

TAMPA, APRIL 30, 2016 – USF’s track and field team wrapped up competition at the Bobcat Classic and the Penn Relays on Saturday.

At the Bobcat Classic in San Marcos, Texas, freshman Chelsea Francis ran the seventh-best 100m time in school history at 11.75 and finished seventh in the event. The Jacksonville native also finished 10th in the 200m dash with a time of 24.54.

Senior Dwight Davis moved from ninth to eighth on USF’s all-time list with a personal record in the 200m dash. His time of 21.34 was good for 19th place. The Hollywood, Fla., native and three-time all-conference sprinter also finished fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 47.12.

Senior Leandra Munson (Cape Coral, Fla.) finished fifth in the 5K with a time of 18:17.49.

At the 122nd Penn Relays, the oldest and largest track and field competition in the country, senior Bruce Barclay (Fort Lauderdale) completed the 100m hurdles just shy of his personal best (14.28) with a time of 14.31 to finish 14th.

The majority of USF’s throwers were among those who competed in Philadelphia. Senior Devin Screen (Tallahassee) finished seventh in the discus with a throw of 174 feet (53.04m) and ninth in the hammer throw at 186-10 (56.96m). Junior Bernicia Holifield (Tallahassee) finished eighth in the women’s hammer throw with a toss of 178-0 (54.27m).

It was the final week of competition before the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, held May 11-14 in Orlando.
