For the second consecutive year, the American City Business Journals — that's our parent company, in case you were wondering — compiled a ranking of more than 400 public universities and colleges. The rankings were compiled by analyzing 477 four-year public colleges, using the latest data available from the National Center for Education Statistics and the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey. College rankings recently issued by three national publications — Forbes, Kiplinger's and U.S. News and World Report — were also taken into account. Four of Florida's public universities ranked in the top 100 this year (click on the school names to read more about each), including the University of Florida(No. 10), Florida State University(No. 36), the University of South Florida(No. 55) and the University of Central Florida(No. 86). That is a football/party school... I am not sure I have ever read a peer reviewed paper published by someone working out of that school!

Let's not kid ourselves either. FSU has both law and medical schools. USF Health does a lot of our heavy lifting at the graduate level.

Ave Maria has a law school. An who cares if USF Health is doing the heavy lifting? They should be the major player in our graduate program with the amount of money and production tied to it. I'm not belittling USF's accomplishments, but to pull an ostrich on FSU's academic credentials is really myopic. We're not that far away from FSU (in both academics and fun/party school), was my point. They've just have a longer head start.

USF is climbing fast, but I wouldn't say we are number 2 in the state (for public schools)

Having a law school might not mean much but having a nationally ranked law school does. FSU's law school is neck and neck with UF's, if not better.
