The Topeka, Kan., native averaged 17.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and went 8-of-17 (47.1 percent) from 3-point range during the week. McMurray scored 18 points with the help of five made 3-pointers in USF’s 73-67 loss to Houston on Wednesday, Dec. 30. Going against reigning conference player of the year Nic Moore, McMurray scored 17 points at No. 17 SMU on Saturday. He also held Moore to just 13 points on 3-of-11 shooting from the field. McMurray has been a solid contributor for the Bulls all season as his 13.6 points per game rank 12th in the conference. The only freshman to average more points than McMurray is Memphis’ Dedric Lawson with 14.7 points per game. McMurray also leads the conference with 33.8 minutes per game. It is the first conference award for McMurray, who was joined on the honor roll by A.J. Davis (UCF), Farad Cobb (Cincinnati), Rob Gray Jr. (Houston) and Ben Moore (SMU). UConn’s Rodney Purvis was named the player of the week and SMU’s Shake Milton earned rookie of the week honors. McMurray and the Bulls (3-12, 0-2) play at UCF (7-5, 1-0) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. on ESPNNEWS before hosting Cincinnati (11-4, 1-1) on Sunday at noon on ESPNU.
