Wait, that's not what I was told when I got into bourbon. Then again I was still working on my undergrad at the time...

Solid advice. And this is the most useful thread on TBP, if anyone is wondering.

Try Maker's Mark and Knob Creek.  If you like one over the other you will get a strong sense of the flavor profile you prefer.  I have found that most people like one or the other, few people like both.

What does everyone think of straight up Jim Beam bourbon?  Recently acquired a bottle ... do people like it neat?  On rocks?  Or is it mainly a bourbon for mixing?

I've had Makers before.  Been a while so may need to give it another shot.  Soon ... I guess I need to go through this Beam.

Personally, I can no longer drink Beam neat.  I can barely tolerate it mixed.  Maybe I have become a bourbon snob, but it doesn't taste so good anymore after drinking others. :)

That doesn't mean you have to spend a lot.  Four Roses yellow label doesn't cost much more and is very drinkable neat.  If you have Rebel Yell in your area, I have found that to be pretty good as well.

Larceny has some sort of mail in rebate going on right now.  For $25 bucks plus whatever you can get from a rebate standpoint, it is a fairly high quality bourbon.

Right now I'm reaching for my newly acquire Chestnut Farms.  Good stuff.  Cheers!

If you somehow wind up at an Applebee's and need a drink, Jim Beam will do in a pinch. Personally, when I drink Jim Beam, I take shots, and I haven't done that in **** near a decade.

I think this fits in here:  My wife bought me a Cricut cutter for my birthday in March.  Tonight I played with cutting vinyl as a mask and using a chemical etcher to etch glass.  Results below, I'm going to have some fun with this thing.
