I don't have exact answer, but the deepest kickoff was the first one of the game.  They got progressively shorter as the game went on.

Yea, we talked about that almost every game.

Connor Barth was cut by the Bucs because he couldn't reach the endzone. When he came back he said that ko's were a different technique than fg's. I wonder if coach Woodie could find out what that difference is?

Here's a resource.

Doesn't seem complicated, academically speaking.  Could I do it though?  Not a chance.

Here's to hoping the staff can find someone who can.

I am not advocating the firing of any current coaches, but if we did have the right opening, I would love to bring back Larry Scott, if Miami doesn't retain him.

When your kicker can't get it past the 15 yard line you have to come up with a scheme. Obviously they kick it short and to the left to try to smother the return man. if he just average is 15 yard return they're starting at the 30 yard line.  It's really not a coaching problem it's a kicker problem. I give the coach credit for coming up with a scheme to get them the best chance to limit long returns .

From my observation the kicker is getting his foot too far under the football which is causing too much backspin & too much elevation & not enough distance.

Thought about this over the weekend.

Also ... FYI

Allen was LB & Special Teams at Miss.

I'm also interested in the opponents starting yard line after kickoffs and how does that compare to the rest of the FBS

11.7.2 Football Bowl Subdivision - There shall be a limit of one head coach, nine assistant coaches and two graduate assistant coaches who may be employed by an institution in bowl subdivision football.

With at least 15 new head coaching positions, there should be at least 135 assistants looking for employment. Should USF target any of them? Why?

Of course this also means that some of our coaches will also be targeted,

Doing no scientific analysis other than looking at the starting position against UCF.

1. 35 yard line

2. 35

3. 37

4. 32

5. 27

6. 12

7. 26

So... it looks like if we had a guy who could put it in the end zone, we'd have saved about 10 yards or so on the first 3 kicks, broke even on 2, and given up some yards on 1. Average field position lost, about 5-6 yards for that game.

Doing the same for Cincy (I'm not doing any more than this, I have porn to look at online and Cubs trades to ponder).

1. 27

2. 22

3. 30

4. 19

5. 43

6. 30

7. 19

Looks like around 2-3 yards per kickoff lost on average here.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

“This is not a broken football program by any means. It just needs to be united, to get everybody on the same page, share that same vision, and really to have that standard - best is the standard.”
