There were about 5 guys that were jr's/seniors when I was a sophmore that could run a sub 5 mile. That was the best CC and track team we had. I ran a 5:02 mile time at the freshman/sophmore race at I think Sickles? that's when I knew I could pull off a sub 5. But, there were a lot of guys that could run sub 5 on my team when I was a soph, so I didn't think it was that big of a deal.

You can't be this dense man. In track and field, there are personal records (PR). The fastest man in the world isn't going to win every race, but what does matter is his PR. Killins PR is better than Williams PR. You don't go by 1 race to compare who the faster athlete is, you go by PR's. I ran track and field in high school (800m, mile, 2 mile, relays, etc..) I consistently was better than one of my teammates, but he beat me a couple of times just because I wasn't feeling great. My PR's (800m 1:59, mile 4:46, etc..) were better than his PR's (800m 2:04, mile 4:55), and even though he beat me a few times, I was the faster runner...

That's it? lol.

I ran for Jesuit. We had like 15-20 guys who ran a sub-5 mile.  I wasn't one of them though. Clearly you were one of the better guys in the state though.

No question he's fast, just don't know how fast. Would like to see a full tape evaluation. Lake City plays in a good district.

Yup, that was it lol. Jesuit always had great runners for some reason ( I remember the AL Lopez CC races were always one of the faster courses). Those track numbers were my PR's, so I never ran those times consistently. I would say my normal times were 400m 54sec, 800m 2:04-05 and the mile around 4:50ish when I was a senior. I never liked CC as much compared to track, but I did it to stay in shape for soccer. Back when I was in hs, our races were only 3 miles. I think I heard they changed it to 5k's now? I wasn't as good at the 3 mile CC races for some reason, ran in the 18's consistently.

*edit -  back on track, kid seems to be very fast w/upside.

The 5k has been around for at least 13 years as I started running XC in 2002.

The reason we had such great runners is because both us and Plant had summer training schedules that other schools didn't have. Sure, we had plenty of talent that other schools maybe didn't have, but their talent wouldn't have been worth a thing if we didn't have the training schedule. We also had heavy winter training schedules, plus the track schedules in spring.

First, I'm not sure what's with the dense comment. But I didn't downvote you in case you were wondering.

I said in my first post that both guys could win some races against each other. You seemed to disagree with that. Now you say yes Latrell may beat him but that doesn't mean he's faster.

I get that Killins has a lower PR. Right now.  A PR is not static it is dynamic. It is certainly possible, and likely, that both guys times will get lower as they mature and develop.

Also, where does Killins have a 10.5 PR? His fastest reported time is 10.55 wind aided +1.4 http://www.all-athletics.com/node/776552

Latrell's fastest reported is 10.83 against wind of -1.3 http://www.all-athletics.com/node/1079155

I'm not going to run numbers to see how those two compare when you factor the wind in. I don't really care since all I said in my first post was that Latrell beat Killins and he was faster by a tenth. Maybe I should have added "that day".  BTW, Latrell's PR was at the Bob Hayes invitational with Killins in the field.

Also, both of those PRs are from last spring. I assume both guys developed physically since last spring and their PRs may get lower still. Or maybe they both got fat and they're slower.

Finally, to Jupiter's point above, we will have to see how all of the track speed translates to the field with pads on. After seeing both tapes I am comfortable with the guy we have committed.

Watched that film again. This kid is FAST and perfect for our current Bulls offense. Check out the play at the 50 second mark. You also saw alot of screen plays that he broke. Very Chris Barr-like.

Shades of Ean Randolph.

Could be.

Watched his senior highlights and he's just really good at everything you could want in a slot receiver or return specialist.

Tough

Has an extra gear

Turns Busted Plays into 8 yd gain

Change of direction without losing speed

Catches ball away from body yet secures it quickly before a hit

Fundamentally sound.

Glad the coaches go after players regardless of star rating, that's important in building what your program needs, not what recruiting services are selling.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
