YES That is wrong, and it is bad, very bad!

We are a Division 1, FBS, or whatever, college football program.

We and every other Div 1 college sports program have an equal chance to win a National Championship in EVERY other collegiate sport in which we compete.

We do not have that equal chance in football.

We have become so conditioned into believing that we are second rate because of lack of tradition, lack of funding, lack of alumni support, lack of community support, etc. etc all of our "shortcomings", whatever they may be, and i do realize we have many of them.

My point is that these factors should not preclude us from eating at the Big Boys table.  Further these factors do not preclude any team in any sport from playing for a championship except in college football.

Look at the Yankees as The University of Alabama and USF as the Tampa Bay Rays: The Yankees have better tradition, better fan support, more money, etc. etc. than TB however they each have an equal chance of playing in the World Series at the end of the day.

You do realize that this goes against the premise of your op, right?

But what constitutes equal? Did the undefeated Tulane get screwed out of playing for a national championship the year they went undefeated? By what parameter do we measure 'fair'. D1 Football is a different animal, and remember, the P5 bandied about the idea of cutting loose from the NCAA. That, my friends, is a business decision that is absolutely fair from the P5 perspective.

There are provisions in place for a G5 to get to the playoffs, theoretically, and to play for a NC, again theoretically. Does expanding the existing playoff to x-number of teams make it 'fair'? Does the abolition of the P5 for an all inclusive FBS (as we had with the BCS) make it 'fair'? WE complained when we had the BCS and now we complain about the new system because we were left standing in the rain.

But to the original idea of why there is no G5 playoff...because it would be viewed as cementing even further the divide between the P5 and everyone else that plays at D1 level. As it is now, the 'throw-the-dog-a-bone-bowl-invite' is probably as good as it's going to get. Some people think that unless we all get an even shot at the championship, the system is somehow unfair. I would argue that the P5 is  a corporation unto itself, and as such, dictates who does and does not have access to the facility.

When, exactly, is the Playoff expanding to 8?

So even if it does, the G5 have a shot at ONE of these 8 spots?

They'll go to 8 once the contract is up for the current system and keep the format the same. they need to keep a G5 team in the playoff otherwise they might not get their cupcake games anymore
