The question is though, who is going to take that initiative? I feel like this would definitely grab the universities attention. 

Would def grab their attention,  Might even get their name displayed somewhere on the stadium as well depending on the size of the donation(funds raised).   If I had the time and experience I would do it myself ,  Unfort not up to date with all the Kick Starter or  Go Fund me things( older here and technology seems to be passing me buy lol).     

I will gladly commit to donating though if one was started

I'd be willing to help out get the ball rolling on this, but no way can 1 person do all this. Plus you'd have to fork over cash just to get the 501(c) taken care of.
