USF moves to No. 19 in A.P. poll

TAMPA, NOV. 16, 2015  The USF women’s basketball team moved up one spot after a 2-0 weekend, coming in at No. 19 in the Associated Press Top-25 poll released Monday. The Bulls moved ahead of Northwestern, which opened the season 1-0.

Little changed from the preseason AP poll, but fellow American Conference member UConn is no longer the unanimous No. 1. South Carolina opened the season 2-0 and received one first place vote in the No. 2 slot. Notre Dame, Tennessee and Baylor held steady to round out the top-5.

The Bulls opened the season 2-0 and outscored opponents by a margin of 12.5 points. USF defeated Jacksonville 74-52 Friday and Drexel 73-58 Sunday in the first and second rounds of the preseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).  The Bulls cleaned up the glass, out-rebounding opponents by a margin of 14.5. USF’s offense averaged 73.5 points per game, and a shooting percentage of .459.

The No. 19 ranking marks the highest ranking in USF women’s basketball history. The Bulls started the season ranked No. 20 in the preseason A.P. poll.

They haven't looked good. Scared at what will happen against Baylor with these slow defensive starts.

Every successful Journey starts with small first steps unless your Steve Perry.

It's early, they have to get back into the swing of being a team on the court after being split up and playing on different teams over the offseason. Takes a while to reconnect but I think we'll be fine.

Wow, highest ranking in our history, awesome! Keep rolling, ladies!

Teams matchup differently with other teams.

In the first game, our opponent played some very good defense.

In the 2nd game our opponent shot the lights out with 3 pointers.

Despite the problems USF encountered with both teams, USF was able to turn it up a notch when it counted during the final period and run away and hide.

Also, USF took the opportunity to play more players in both games and get a feel what they can do in various lineups.

I expect against Baylor, USF won't be testing new things as much and will raise their level of play. At least, that's what I hope. LOL

Meaningless caca!

It may be meaningless to you, but not so meaningless to many recruits when considering a school.

We get very few top 100 players. They go mainly to the top 15 WBB schools.

There are a number of them in the '17 class who are considering USF.

The better we are ranked, the more likely we will get some of them, because the other schools under consideration by them are all big time WBB programs.

That's just the way it works.

Many UCONN fans on the Boneyard message board are all up in arms because some noted WBB pundit said in a podcast recently that USF would beat them at least one game this season. LOL
