USF’s Flowers Named To Davey 0’Brien “Great 8” Performers List For Week 11

Sophomore QB accounted for 320 total yards and 3 TD Saturday

 

TAMPA, NOV. 16, 2015  – Versatile quarterback Quinton Flowers’(Miami) emergence as a dominant playmaker hit full stride Saturday in USF’s 44-23 upset of No. 21 Temple. The sophomore was honored Monday among the Davey O’Brien Award “Great 8” quarterback performances for week 11.

 

Flowers accounted for 320 total yards and three touchdowns, many in spectacular fashion, Saturday as he led the Bulls to their fifth win in the last six games and their first defeat of a ranked opponent since 2011.

 

Flowers completed 15-of-22 pass for 230 yards and two touchdowns, including a 68-yard dagger to Rodney Adams that tied the game at 7-7 and quickly swung the momentum in USF’s direction. Flowers also hit Marlon Mack with a 20-yard touchdown pass and ran for a five-yard touchdown in the first half. Flowers 42-yard run up the gut of the Temple defense set up the Bulls' fourth touchdown of the first half as he accounted for all 61 yards of the USF drive, running or throwing.

 

The Davey O’Brien Award is presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate quarterback annually. The weekly “Great 8” performances are determined by voting from the award’s selection subcommittee, wich picks eight of the nation’s 128 quarterbacks to honor weekly. Those eight are eligible for the Quarterback of the Week Award announced Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. (ET).

 

Flowers enters Friday’s primetime clash with Cincinnati at Raymond James Stadium with 1,676 yards passing and 14 passing touchdowns and 747 yards rushing and a team-high eight rushing touchdowns on the year. His passer efficiency rating of 144.92 now ranks fifth in the American Conference as he has completed 60.4 percent of his passes and thrown just six interceptions. Flowers, who set a conference and school rushing record for a quarterback earlier this year with 201 yards vs. SMU, stands 125 yards shy of breaking Matt Grothe’s USF season quarterback rushing record of 872.

It's quite possible.  They have a chance at a historic season this year if the planets align.
