You don't think winning 7 of your last 8 would garner any consideration? That's an impressive feat no matter what conference you're in.

No, an 8-4 USF team will not be ranked (Maybe if the Big East were still alive, but doubtful). It's even debatable whether we'd be ranked if we go 9-4. 10-4 and yes, we'd be ranked to end the year. And winning 8 games in a crap conference (Ex: Sun Belt, CUSA) is not impressive to me.

9-4 i say 75% chance we'd be rank and if we where 10-4 then yes yes yes.

To go 9-4, we would have to be conference champs, with 5 straight victories and two top 25 wins.  That should be enough to get to the low twenties

it is all about how you finish

Just win the conference, baby.  It hasn't been done before.

And yes Memphis only has 2 losses, but it's all about the timing of those losses. They've lost 2 in a row and were ranked in the back end of the top 25. Any team that does that gets the boot from the rankings.

I think we will be receiving votes if we are 8-4, but teams like Memphis and Temple who are currently 8-2 aren't ranked so I don't know how we would be ranked at 8-4 just based on comparison to our peers. Also beating (presumably) 5 loss Cincinnati and 12 loss UCF won't propel us from not receiving votes to ranked IMO. It still comes down to Temple being our only win over a winning team in over 2 years and we have a bad loss to Maryland on the resume. Temple was begging to be beat by ECU, UCF, and SMU and still has Memphis on the schedule so the perception of that win could further deteriorate. If we win the AAC that is the only way I could see us ranked and depending on how other teams do, it may take that plus a bowl win. If have to check to see the last time a G5 team was ranked with 4 losses but my guess is not that recently.

In the past 13 seasons, which is as far back as I can see easily, no G5 team has finished the season ranked in either the AP poll or Coaches poll with 4 losses. The only Big East team to do it was West Virginia in 2008 and 2009 who finished ranked 23rd and 25th those years. That Big East was better than this American conference and in 2009 West Virginia had a top 10 win on their resume. In other words, it is very unlikely we can get ranked this year, but who knows how the committee might rank us. In the past 10 seasons only 2 teams from the G5 have ranked higher than 25th with as many as 3 losses, Utah in 2009 (after going undefeated in 2008 and all 3 losses coming on the road to top 12 teams) and UCF in 2010 (can't explain that). We can definitely set ourselves up for next season if nothing else and could see us ranked going into the Florida State game which would be huge.

I posted in another thread, we are 65th in the CBS poll. Does anybody really think that there's any way possible that we move up 40 spots?
