Glad Memphis went down.  Number 1, Navy is flat out better, and secondly, to stop the idiot Memphis posters who think they are on the next train out of here to the B12.

I disagree with the conventional wisdom here.  I think Memphis had a realistic shot at the CFP... especially if it could have won out.

The CFP put Memphis at #13 in the initial rankings.  That is higher than the coaches and the reporters. The top 12 teams all had some "round robin" games against each other... LSU-Alabama... Florida-LSU/Bama winner... OSU-MSU... OSU-UM... Clemson-FSU... Stanford-Notre Dame... TCU-Baylor-Oklahoma-OkSt...

Had the Tigers kept winning, with wins over Temple and Houston (both ranked), they easily could have made it near the Top 4.

Now, consider what the CFP committee could do with some "good will" -- by picking a legitimate G5 school for #4.  Not to mention the P12 and B1G are not really that impressive (heck P12 and B1G might be shut out anyway with ND)...

Remember... the BCS let Utah and Boise in... when people said that would never happen.

BYU.  Michigan State. Georgia Tech.  Nebraska.  College football is full of miracles.

Never say never in college football.

The BCS didn't "let" anyone in.  The rankings were based equally on 3 sections: The USA Today coaches poll, Harris Interactive Poll, and 6 different computer rankings.  Today's CFB Selection Committee is based solely on 12 old farts opinions. As for those BCS buster schools, none of them actually played for a MNC, they got stuck in one of the other "Access Bowls"

I like Navy.   It's hard to cheer under the pretense of conference reasons when we along with most of those teams are just hoping that they can show enough to be invited to join the P5.  Screw Memphis, Temple, Houston, Cincy, and UCF (who fortunately screwed themselves this year).

Go Bulls!

Part of me wants to see what could happen if Navy wins out for the AAC... it could throw the a large chunk of the bowl selection process into a tizzy.

..........

Yes, I tend to root for chaos... although it rarely happens.

Navy always causes chaos.  They play the Army Navy game after other conferences have played their championship games.  They had to make a special rule that whichever team loses that game cant have it effect their rankings because in many cases bowl games are already announced and tickets mailed out.

9-0 Houston might wonder what it takes to NOT screw themselves then. They still have to beat Memphis and Navy to prove it, but they look like the best team to challenge the playoff system IMO.

Put down the blue koolaid, Memphis had no shot at the top 4 playoff.  Now they did have a shot at one of the remaining slots in. New Years Six bowl, and the American Will probably still get that slot as they're the G5 conference with highest ranked team.

id love to see Navy play their triple option in a big time bowl.

An Memphis had a chance... with so many of the top teams playing each other... Clemson could very well lose to UNC in Charlotte, Ohio State has to play three solid teams (Michigan State, Michigan, & Iowa), and Notre Dame plays Stanford who will face Utah or UCLA in the championship, The Big 12 Round Robin will claim some victims... Alabama has Auburn and Florida  after this week's match up with Miss St... It is probable that an undefeated Memphis would have moved up every week (especially with wins over ranked Temple and Houston)...  Did they need help? Sure... but "no shot" is wrong.  "Long shot" is better than "no shot."  And they were in the conversation.

Sorry brother...  Memphis had no chance to be selected by the Playoff Committee as one of the 4 best teams in the country.  Their win over Ole Miss looks less impressive every day as they aren't even in the top 25 anymore.  The facts are that the schedules the G5 teams play just aren't strong enough to be considered for playoffs.
