Their O-line seems to be on the smallish side.

They are.

That's why they rely heavily on cut blocks

So how many DLs do we we lose in this game?

I'm not trying to take anything away from Navy, based on who they've played and the amount of scores they put up/gave up compared to ours, I certainly think we can win...

They beat Colgate, ECU, Air Force, UConn, and Tulane.

I think we would be 5-1 if we had their schedule. Can't wait til Saturday! It's going to be a good one, but I think we will win by more than 1 score.

Their QB is Houdini with the ball, hard to defend when you don't know where the football is

No, it's really not.  Everyone has their assignment and you stick to it unless you KNOW FOR SURE that the ball went elsewhere

exactly... If the Dline can get standing penetration in the middle, it throws off the entire offense.  The Tackles will be huge this game.  They'll also have to help keep the guards of the LBs...  but we should be good with their double teams at the point of attack, providing the guys can avoid the cuts.

If we play good assignment football like I think we will, we'll be fine.  Our Defense is discipline this season.  They've not accumulated a lot of fouls and lately they have been playing really good against the run.  Really really good.

This is a huge game for CWT and co.

Navy doesn't have better athletes than USF, and they aren't bigger than USF. This means everything comes down to coaching. And forget about home crowd. Navy has like 4,500 students and their stadium sits around 35,000.

There's no mystery about how Navy plays. And everybody knows that they are well coached. Did you see the 4th and 12+ play where Navy tried to fake out ND? I think it was right before the first half ended.

This game will tell me a lot about the status of our program:

(1) Has our program turned the corner,  going from terrible to good? Or are we just an average team?

(2) How good is the defense?

(3) Offensively, are we really no longer driving under the 17pt speed limit?

(4) Beat Navy and our odds of winning enough games and getting to a bowl goes up to about 90%.

Here's a nice little blog about defending the flex in a 4-2-5 scheme.

I think we should defend it well if we play our assignments properly.

“In my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘OK, excuses over'. We know what we need to do. We’ve got the right team together, and now we move forward, and we’ll evaluate and be accountable to each other, including myself, from this point forward.”

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
