The Missing Dollar

Another fun one for you riddlers!..a real classic.  This one's no logic problem, though...you need your wits about you to discern the messy solution.  Again, no fair if you know the answer--or Googling it and posting!  Let's keep it on the up and up.  

 

Three men check in to a hotel at the same time.  The rate for each room for one night is $10, so each man pays that amount (for a total of $30 paid to the hotel) and retires to his separate room.  However, afterwards, the manager realizes he forgot to apply a weekly promotion of $25 for three rooms, and asks the bellhop to take $5 as a refund to the men.  The bellhop, being of a dishonest type, decides that since the men don't know any better he'll refund each one dollar and keep two dollars for himself.  This he does, and then men are each satisfied that they paid a discount of $9 for one night of lodging....no one the wiser and the bellhop $2 the richer.

So...if each man paid $9, they paid $27 total.  And if the bellhop kept $2, that accounts for $29 total. But the men paid the hotel $30 initially.  Where is the missing dollar?

Simple division/rounding issue

$25/3 = 8.33... not $8 (which the hotel keeps)

.33 *3 = .99

So the hotel stiffed them .0000000000...1 cent
