...and Larry takes it in the chin again. If you've never heard a 75-year-old sound like a 4-year-old, here's the money line:

I don't know why I lied.

[edit] - "We don't know either, young man, but you can have 9 games to think about it. Now go to your room! And NO postseason for you!!"

This sounds much more serious than the previous violation which was someone giving a recruit money to visit his ill grandmother.

For those who never believed Jerry Tarkanian when he said the brand name schools get away with things the others cannot, SMU gets put on probation while the name brand UNC Chapel Hill gets nothing (they keep finding ways to delay sanctions) despite having bogus classes going back to the 80s.

UCONN would disagree

While UConn has been excellent, do you really think they are as powerful as UNC-Chapel Hill?  Or any other school in the so called power conferences?

UNLV could beat most anyone on a given day from the 70s into the 90s and their 1990 team was probably the best I've ever seen.  The program itself still did not have the political power within the NCAA like some of the teams from the power conferences. I suspect UConn is in the same situation.

SMU will file an appeal, Brown will coach the year and retire next year. He'll never miss a game.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
