  1. www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/bostons-fenway-park-to-host-new-2020-college-football-bowl-game-between-acc-aac-teams/amp/ The CBS Sports version of this story is hoping for Miami vs USF for the inaugural game. Not sure if they are behind sarcastic, but I'd go to that game!
  2. By Joey Knight Published December 14 TAMPA — The Herd will come out thundering for the Gasparilla Bowl, as it does for every blessed bowl played. Oh, sure, some years Marshall may be injury-maligned or overmatched, but it's never, ever flat. Chisel that in stone. How do we know? Because of everything already chiseled in and around Huntington, W.Va., where football really is about life and death. The home to Marshall football is replete with shrines, cemetery markers, even memorial fountains. And when you sign on to play for the Herd, a few things also get chiseled in your psyche: history, tragedy, pride and those 75 souls immortalized from Huntington to Hollywood. When you're representing something that much greater than yourself, flat just doesn't come into play. Rest of article
  3. St. Pete bowl renamed to the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl. Hope that we don't come anywhere near going to that bowl; it's an interesting name... https://www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/college-football/2017/8/18/16167248/gasparilla-bowl-bad-boy-mowers-st-petersburg-renamed
  4. ... to reveal the the real reason(s) we lost in Miami. It wasn't the refs or the undisciplined defense. In no particular order: Walking into the game, I spy a lady wearing a Sun Bowl t-shirt. Seriously?? No other green shirts beside that? Her friends and family also failed for allowing it. Then when I saw her sitting two rows in front of us, I got butterflies in my stomach. The bowl trophy, surrounded by some funky helmets in addition to the two teams', was sitting on a table down in front of us. When we were up 14-0, I looked down and the cheerleaders were posing for pics with the trophy. The butterflies went to full on queasiness .... As a program, we will be forever fighting obstacles like this until every one of our fans, and apparently support personnel, learn the consequences of such actions. Maybe the Athletic Department can provide educational, online courses ...
  5. Welcome to TheBullsPen.com's 2015 Football Prediction Contest 2015 Bowl Game Bulls vs. Hilltoppers The Contest: Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to select the winner for the week's USF football game - as well as make some tie-breaking prognostications. 7. These guys should just come out of the closet and expand already. Bowl thieves. Big 12 wants minor bowl games fans can drive to By RALPH D. RUSSO (AP College Football Writer) | The Associated Press – 2 hours 20 minutes ago The Big 12 wants to have a greater postseason presence in Florida and get into more bowls that its fans can reach by car. As college football gets ready for a shake-up in its postseason system, Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said he would like to have reach agreements with five or six bowl games. Bowlsby and the other nine major conference commissioners, along with Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick, will meet in southern California this week to pick the final three bowls to be involved in the six-site playoff rotation. Once those are in place, the conferences can turn their attention to the other bowls for 2014 and beyond. The Big 12's current agreements, which end after this season, do not include a Florida game. Bowlsby said league officials want to change that, while keeping a strong hold on Texas and having a destination ''out West.'' 8. I had the opportunity to attend the Mike Aresco/ESPN conference call on the new deal. I jotted down some unofficial notes I thought I'd share.. Aresco was very excited about the deal with ESPN. He said the agreement shows confidence ESPN has in conference. Together the plan is to be very innovative. A wide ranging agreement - content can appear nationally and on various ESPN platforms. On the new name of the conference - nothing new. Name to be disclosed in Spring. Aresco went on to say possibly April, early May. They are currently working with branding groups. There will be games scheduled on Thursdays and Fridays. They will be sensitive to H.S. football There was a question about the existing schools infighting over exit fees. Aresco said there had been none at all. It's a very cordial, straightforward and collegial group. Will the conference consider selling naming rights? Aresco vehemently said No. Not even thinking about it. On the 12th member - "We are looking at expansion" Intention is to get to 12. Expectation is to have championship game in 2015. Possibly in 2014, but unlikely. When ESPN was asked of what nights for television (basketball) the response was most nights of the week, but it was too early to tell. Where will conference basketball championship be played? Aresco says they're looking at a group of cities - the preference is to hold it in a city with a conference presence. They may rotate among site, not sure. Aresco like the Pac12 model - on campus sites. Aresco said top 3 priorities right now are 1) the name/rebranding 2) Venues 3) revenue ESPN can license out games to sub-licensees. ESPN said "excited about upside, can help in 'comprehensive exposure'." It was asked if Tulane could make it next season, Aresco commented they had other obligations. Further talk on a 2014 conference football championship if Navy joined earlier, but it has not been discussed. Pinstripe Bowl - still working on, hope they stay with new league. Who makes the call on what teams get on ESPN? The network and conference work together to determine best games for TV. What input does ESPN have in naming process? Aresco says the league will decide but may ask ESPN for opinion. "ESPN has never asked about a name." Is there a scheduling agreement (basketball) with the C7 schools? Aresco says "No agreement, but you'll see us play down the road."
  9. It's time to start a Holtz new era with Coach Kyle Gass and the stooges, but Rome wasn't built in a day. It's time to throw down the first challenge: Play one game without turning the ball over right before he half. You are probably wondering what time period counts as being right before the half. The truth is, I don't know, but you can almost feel the turnover about to happen right before it does. It's that time right before a half when you definitely would hope to not turn it over, but inevitably do. Let's kick off the halfway point of the 2012 season without a pre-half turnover! That can be step #1 and step #45094 will be win a national championship. Go Bulls! #USFapathydrinkinggame
  10. the 7th Annual USF Preseason Tailgate party is scheduled for July 28th from 4 to 8 PM at Capogna’s Dugout (1653 Gulf to Bay Blvd. Clearwater 727-441-4791). For the past six years, this fan-based “grass roots†movement generates excitement in the surrounding community for the upcoming football season and creates new fans and season ticket holders. The event is always free to the public, and you are invited to join other BULLS fans for an appearance by head coach Skip Holtz, watch last season’s video highlights, buy merchandise from Bulls Outfitter, play games, and win prizes. In the past we have had representatives from ticket sales, the Bulls Club, the USF Alumni Association, the Herd of Thunder, cheer squad and even Rocky the Bull show up to support the event. If you have any questions, concerns or ideas, please post here or email usfmutt@hotmail.com -mutt For those who need an explanation. It started as a joke between a few friends on how we could get the BULLS football highlight tape to watch in the off-season. This idea however started to gain popularity between the truly insane BULLS fanatics out there so we decided to have a party at the same place we watch the BULLS during football season watch parties (Capogna's Dugout). We had some friends who worked in the Athletic Department (to get the tape) and since we would watch it in the summer It turned into the "Preseason Tailgate". This little party of friends turned into an annual event that has seen thousands of BULLS fans over the years (we've had people drive from Orlando and Fort Myers before) Every year I invite The Head Coach of USF football to come out and speak and take questions about the upcoming season (Coach Holtz is a helluva speaker btw). Capogna's has food and drink specials and lets me sell beer mugs for $10 that they fill for $2 (believe me you'll like them), Craig from BULLS Outfitter comes by and sets up the latest in BULLS merchandise, In the past we've had reps from Bulls Club, Season Ticket sales, and USF Alumni. We've had the Herd of Thunder, Cheerleaders and Sundolls, Rocky, Ex football players (and others), We've had a book signing from ex B-Ball player Tony Grier, We play games, Give away prizes, and generally have a good time celebrating the USF BULLS. So this party is for all of us, the fans, and it will ALWAYS be free to the public. I hate the concept of charging people money so they can participate in what everyone in Florida should be celebrating anyway the USF BULLS ! It is on the same day as the ladies football clinic, but Holtz likes the way it turned out last year and we all get together and party afterwards. As always, if there is anyone out there who wants to help set up the event, If you'd like to take pictures (to post on the BullsPen) or video (to broadcast over the web), if you're a BULLS fan who wants to party, or might have BULLS related Merchandise to sell (compliance-based), or knows a BULL-friendly business who would like to offer discounts for BULLS fans, I will never charge anyone to show up. (but you can always buy a mug if you want one...LOL) Thanks to everyone, especially, Swamprat. He is a good friend who bleeds Green and Gold. Brad, who is the king of TBP (who let's me rant) and BDYZR who always carries the torch for BULLS COUNTRY !!! Enthusiasm is contagious people, Clear your calendars and let's do this... -Mutt
