Laparoscopic surgery decreases recovery time. As for the driving, it's mostly due to your pain and the need to take your meds. They alter perception a little bit thus making dangerous for the road. If you really want to make it saturday, have someone else drive for you and no brusk movements (jumping, dancing and the sorts). If you do make it out, a tight dressing is preferable to hold the injury site nice and firm. I've never had surgery myself but some of our patients have been functional as early as 3 days. Age does play a factor too in recovery. My 2 cents
