  1. ^^^ This was what I was wondering about. I know it was a crazy year and a bunch of teams (like U California and Boston) made it to #2 that year and then fell apart. Going into the NC it was Ohio State, LSU, WVU and Missouri battling it out. WVU and Missouri had late season losses and that dropped them from contention. I think we would have been jumped by LSU (Ohio State was #1 most of the year including week 7 when we were #2). LSU (11–2) with wins over (#9 Virginia Tech, #12 South Carolina, #9 Florida, #18 Auburn *same as us*, #17 Alabama, #14 Tennessee). Hawaii was 12-0 with a win over a ranked Boise (17) before losing to Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. Anything, interesting conversation.
  2. Off topic but would we have played for the NC if we continued to run the table in 2007?
  3. Then don't buy it. I think you made my case nicely anyway.
  4. I was discussing CJL with my 12 yo at the game this year. I said imagine having a chance to win against ANY opponent no matter who it was. He was like "whoa!!!". Followed up by, imagine the same team could lose to any opponent (like UCONN this year). "That's what it was like when CJL was coach" It was exciting though. The sole has been sucked out of me the past 10 years since. I miss the way that felt.
  5. We are in complete agreement. I almost think programs in our situation have to become adept at hiring up and comers.
  6. I just feel like this is a somewhat defeatist attitude. So we are looking for a unicorn? I say we hire someone who will leave in a couple of years. We need a string of those.
  7. Should you be talking about this? It being Sunday and all?
  8. He is staying. At least that it my guess.
  9. Leavitt, with all due respect, is a retread at this point. Time to turn the page.
  10. Dclenden, no worries. Traffic is so fast on this site with relevant topics that this thread is sure to be gone by Christmas.
  11. Judy was so cut throat she brought us to Preeminent Status. She deserves the statue.
  12. I suppose you can hold off on reading about it until Monday if it suits you.
  13. Article about his contract. I am no CWT fan and I was pretty pissed at the way he left but even I don't like how this could shape up. He only had a "nine-page letter of agreement" apparently similar what happened to Gillespie at Kentucky where he only wound up getting half his money. The deal didn't spell out what "firing for cause" or define the types of other jobs he could take that would not trigger FSU to stop paying him. Read the article when you get a second but he is likely not coaching (or pumping gas) in the near future until this gets sorted out.
  14. We went to most of the home games this year. The last 2 were mostly just tailgating events with the family and we weren't paying attention to when the game started (but somehow made it in for the seniors to whew) and left at halftime. We will not be season ticket holders next year but will attend games ad hoc. We have had season tickets since the 2nd season but all the joy is gone. It has gotten harder and harder to justify going to the games.
  15. This made me laugh. Yes, let's stick it to them. I'm sure their ticket office is in pins and needles over this.
  16. I'm assuming this whole thread is being facetious.
  17. I love CJL but hard pass. We need new blood. We lost our mojo.
  18. There were 15 people left in the stadium at the end of the game. This sounded like 5 of them. I can't recall ever seeing the stadium so empty in the past 20+ years. We brought a guest and I told him we once filled the stadium. It was an amazing contrast. It was like I was telling him how buffalo once roamed the plains.
  19. This is how I see it too. He is a great recruiter that masked his lack of coaching ability once he got to a level where there was immense talent and depth on both sides of the ball. Maybe as his career progress his coaching would have caught up to his recruiting but it was not there yet. Anyway he got paid.
  20. But there is something to be said for actually winning things. So he has never coached a team that won a championship at any level nor coached a team that has won a bowl game (his teams lost those bowl games). CJL never won a championship but he won MANY big games against teams we seemed outgunned against and bowl games (4 total if you count the Clemson bowl).
  21. I stopped paying attention to Willie taggart career after he left here. Did he ever win a bowl game or a championship?
  22. As a spectator I don't see this as a collaborative process.
