  1. I agree Howie. Time to force the issue. The basketball money is good enough for them to split. Why not the football? Let them go play all other sports in the ASUN. See how they like playing in high school gyms. The BE bends over backwards for them and I believe they need the NBE more for all other sports than we need them for football(although it wouldn't hurt us much!!). They could easily work out a situation where they wouldn't give up any of their NBC TV money. I'm sure they could come up with a compromise on the bowl revenues. How hard could it be to add one more BE football game??
  2. Why is ND so high and mighty? They've done nothing in 25 years. Why don't they join the BE as a 1/2 football member? All they need to do is add a 4th game. Maybe we could get Army to take the other 4. I say the league gives them an ultimatum. Join as a 1/2 member or leave the league in all other sports. mini bowl game?? How arrogant. Quit living in the past.
  3. dabull, I like some of those names but what makes you think they can do any better than RMC? It's one thing to recruit and coach against teams that have similar operating budgets  but  let's see them win consistently against teams that spend 10 times the amount on facilities, coaches, etc. Look at the difference in what goes into our basketball program and that of Cinci or Loiusville. We haven't given him a fair chance.  I think I saw where Utah's guy gets paid $500k base .Almost double that of RMC's. Zags guy probably gets paid just as much. Plus they would lose all their pipelines by moving to the southeast. The NE guys seem interesting but again what have they accomplished that RMC wasn't able to at WMU? I  attended Rider for my first 2 years before graduating from USF. They looked sharp on the deuce the other day. When was the last time they went dancing? All they have to do is win the MAAC. How about Drexel? They are barely .500. I say beggars can't be choosers. Give the man a fair chance. I bet we could get Calipari. He would want to coach in the BE over CUSA. We only have to come up with $1 mil plus put up with the thugs he puts on the floor. The arrest sheets would make interesting reading.
  4. Pull out your checkbooks, darksiders!! You get what you pay for. I think all of the dark siders might want to double or triple their donations. That is if they donate anything at all. They don't seem to be very supportive of anything USF. They definitely aren't very realistic. I am happy with the way things are progressing. Will we ever be a competitive hoops team year in and year out in the Big East? Probably not. Our coach is the lowest paid, our facilities are probably some of the worst in the league and we have absolutely no basketball tradition. Hell, the coach that most wanted to run out of town is now making $170 k + perks per year more than the current one. He couldn't get us into the tourney and he actually got a raise!! Does that mean that we won't have a team that suprises some occasionally? No. Look at Miami for example. Not a perrenial powerhouse but able to put together a team every 5 or 6 years to make a run. This is what we should expect. One year, every 5 or 6, where everything falls into place and we make some noise. We will be playing in the best conference ever assembled for basketball. Get used to some tough years unless you're willing to donate the brand new state of the art $25 million basketball facility that holds 25,000 screaming fans, the private lear jet, and the $2.0 million a year for a coach that will attract the biggest recruits in the country. You get what you pay for. Time to put up or shut up. I'm behind CRM all the way and I'm glad he was willing to take a chance on what seems to be a no win situation. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/college/news/2003/05/30/bkb_coaching_salaries/
  5. If they aren't 100% sold out then I will be pissed. I donate $2 k per year and only have one ticket this year and they told me that I couldn't get in the lower bowl without sitting behind the basket. I would get a better seat if I took that money and signed up for classes and attended as a student. There have been plenty of games that the student section was not even close to being full but I still sit in the 2nd level by the visiting teams fans (it isn't much fun to hear them talk smack when our team plays as poorly as they have lately). They should let the fans down to fill the seats at half. Starting with the donors and then allow the students.
  6. Let's see..SG has beaten the bottom 3 teams in the ACC. Virginia, Clemson, and NC State are a combined 4-16. Real impressive. I'll give him the GT upset but they look like they are overrated as well at 3-3 in conference. Wait until the spring swoon he is so known for. he can't finish..never could. same old seth. glad he moved on. we should have kicked him out long ago.
  7. Why doesn't anyone think a split ticket is a possibility? I say force ND to play 4 BE games a year. Let them keep their NBC deal(2 home on NBC;2 away for BE TV). If they go to a BCS bowl then let them keep the proceeds. Allow them to go to a BE sponsored bowl only if they split money with conference. Don't give them any TV money or a share of any BE bowl money. Invite Army to take the other 4 games. It would definitely lend some credibility to the conference without costing the BE much. Force ND to take the deal or let their other sports go play in the A-10. As far as USF is concerned, I think you might want to consider potential. We have hardly had a chance to get our feet wet as far as D-1 a football is concerned. Bowls and big wins in the past don't matter. I think the BE sees what they did for a Miami program that was almost extinct back in the 80's. The past is o.k. for Louisville. You definitely would not be considered a powerhouse.  Look at  the number of national champs in the last 25 years  from the state of Florida compared to the number from Kentucky. I think you'll see why we were invited.
  8. I say let Army and Navy split a spot. They could each play 4 conference games. I know they are opposed to joining a conference but if they only had to play 4 games out of a 12 game schedule then they might consider it (if there was an incentive-say a 1/18 share of bowl revenues). Or maybe try and get ND and Army to split a spot. Force ND into it or kick them out of all the other sports. With 8 OOC games they could easily play all of their traditional rivals.
  9. I was able to sneak one in. I don't know how because mine crashed too. Here are 2 he mentions us in. Rich(Tampa,Fl): Ryan, How about the University of South Florida? Dawsey has some talented, young receivers for you to work with not to mention the opportunity to start for 4 years and play the likes of Miami. Why not create tradition instead of following it? Imagine taking a program that has been around for less than 10 years to a BCS bowl and possible NC. Talk about being THE MAN Ryan Perrilloux: (1:30 PM ET ) South Florida has an alright chance, I really just like the receiving Coach Duffey a lot. That's really what's keeping them on my list. Dan New York, NY: Ryan, Which are your final schools? Ryan Perrilloux: (1:34 PM ET ) Miss. State, South Florida, LSU, Texas, Florida State and Miami.
  10. I would run a promotion where the first say 200 people to show up get a free ticket. The next 200 get in for $5, the next 200 get in for $10. Promote this for all games. Start giving away the tickets an hour before tip off. I don't know what the increased overhead would be but I believe all these people might spend money at the concessions and for parking. It would actually bring in additional revenue and I think the players might appreciate seeing some people in the stands. I think the hardcore fans and boosters would not mind this because it would increase attendance. I don't know what our walkup numbers are but I don't imagine they are very high.
  11. I think UAB beat S Miss by 8. This will be a huge game for our confidence. Hopefully we don't lose on a miracle 3 at the end like we did last year.
  12. $10 might not increase attendance all that much but they have to consider this when talking about walkups. I don't mind paying $16 because I am a donor (heck- I donate $2k per year and can't even get a seat in the lower bowl-not even when there are tons of empty seats). Give the donors who pay $16 the ability to use the empty seats in the lower bowl. The gators tickets are only $10 and they put a much better product on the floor. Charge $5 for the first say 200 walkups. Then go to $10 for the next 500. Then go to $15 for the remaining tickets. Start selling to walkups 1 hour before gametime. First come first served. Run this as a continuing promotion. The hot games will bring in the most revenue(not to mention lines at the ticket booth). When we play no name opponents we can still draw a crowd (we just won't make much money- rightly so).
  13. I think it would be cool if our first bowl game is a BCS bowl game. I don't think teams that finish 7-5, 8-4, etc. deserve to go bowling. You should have to finish with no more than 3 losses. It used to be a reward and something special to get invited to a bowl game now half of the teams in D1 go.
  14. Oops. sorry bullman. I forgot optimism is not allowed on this board. We're all supposed to realize how hopeless things are this year. I hope our players don't have your attitude. Thinking like that is a guarantee for failure. Might as well call it a season, huh? I'll be happy if they believe they can win every game, work hard trying, and never quit. Sounds like you're ready to.
  15. All 3 of them played against ND. Horton was their leading scorer (hit the game winner) and Brown was their leading rebounder (and 3rd leading scorer). If we can contain their guard Harris then I think we may have a shot. Mac should be familiar with these guys.
  16. 3 starters hurt in 3 days. This should help our chances. Hopefully Mac gets them fired up for this one. http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/7974476
  17. Gators stepped up and paid the man $2 mil per. I think I heard that they offered $1 mil more than ND. I wonder if he remembers the beatdown he took in RayJay back in '02.  Awesome to see a #25 ranked team get their heads handed to them. http://isis.fastmail.usf.edu/usf-athletics/Releases/football/2002/11/16/20021116.htm http://bgsufalcons.collegesports.com/sports/m-footbl/recaps/111702aaa.html
  18. Maybe he doesn't have a team first attitude. He came in thinking he was going to take over and then he only plays 6 minutes and says screw it. Wouldn't be the first time a "star" athlete with a bad attitude would put himself ahead of the team.
  19. Markey Mark Check out the 2 stats that I used and the top 20 teams from last year. Some real good teams on there. In fact quite a few of those teams made a pretty good run in the tourney (even the mid majors i.e. Utah State and Manhattan) 3 point percentage - St Joe's, UCONN, Marquette, Utah State, MSU, Gonzaga- all in the top 11 teams. Free throw percentage- NC State, Arizona, MSU, Butler, Manhattan, Stanford, Gonzaga, Louisville, Florida, Marquette-all in the top 15. Stats aren't everything but I've seen tons of games won and loss on the free throw line. I'd be willing to bet that the better teams are closer to the top in these categories than they are to the bottom. http://www.ncaasports.com/basketball/mens/stats/div1/team_free-throw_percentage http://www.ncaasports.com/basketball/mens/stats/div1/team_three-point_field-goal_percentage
  20. Sherrif Discipline and shooting have everything in common. Not only do you need the discilpline to work hard on your areas of weakness but you need the discipline to work to get an open look at the basket. NBA players don't shoot free throws well because they don't have the discipline to work on them. They are to concerned with how their next dunk is going to look. Why do you think scoring is down from 20 years ago? I never suggested that Greenberg didn't work on these things only that Our Coach seems to be doing a good job with them this year. You are the one who implied that I was bashing Greenberg.
  21. Not much fun leading the conference in FT percentage either. Better get on Coach about 3 ball percentage too. 2nd in the conference and #12 in the country is not going to cut it for this crowd!! Shows what a little discipline can do for a team. http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/stats/teamsort/USA/SCORING/regularseason?&_1:col_1=10 http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/stats/teamsort/USA/SCORING/regularseason?&_1:col_1=13&_1:col_2=10
  22. I donate $2k and I'm still not able to sit in the lower bowl. I asked about moving down as my donation increased this year but they said there was no availabilty. I wish there was a way that donors could get access to these unused tickets. Possibly take a list of donors who would like to trade for these seats (rank them according to donation level) and match them with donors who don't plan on attending the game. It's not real fair for those of us who make a decent donation, attend 80% of the games, and can't get a decent seat because someone donates much less, has been a donor longer and never attends a game. If they don't come why do the care where the seat is located?
  23. it looks like there was a reason he wasn't chosen. Good thing they discovered it (whatever it is) before they hired him. http://bulls.tbo.com/bulls/MGAPE81D6UD.html
  24. Interesting. Hollis doesn't make top 2. http://bulls.tbo.com/bulls/MGA8GSS5WTD.html
  25. anybody know if we are looking into this Countryside guy? Lemming has him as a top 8 QB for 2005. We've got to keep the homegrown talent. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/news/story?id=1782098
