It's always great to poach top level talent, but my guess is he would want to go where he can win the starting job immediately. Brown has tremendous upside so that looks like to big a hill to climb. However having the chance to be coached by Brock Purdy's mentors while coming back home might be enough for him to choose here( if CG would take him)😎

    Huh

Professional Athletes don't move that often

these kids are professional athletes now. Lets stop pretending they are "Student" Athletes. NIL is ruining College sports. Kids deserved to be able to get paid something. Max should have been some sort of reasonable number, maybe 50k. but to just have these kids jump to a new school or demand more money from their current school is a joke.

    What we lost this year:

    Youngblood - 41.6% and 82.9% FT

    Placer - 40.3% and 76.5% FT

    Miguel - 39% and 80.2% FT

    Pryor - 35.2% and 81.5% FT

Will be tough to replace those numbers. Jennings will replace. Not sure if Brown will replace. Green probably will not. And Reynolds could possibly replace.

agreed, still work to do at this moment this years team on paper is better than the team we have coming in.

Does an extension even matter? Dusty May left FAU with a huge contract.  Calipari had a lifelong contract.  I guess the buyout money is nice to pay the next coach but let's not kid ourselves that a contract will keep Coach around for x amount of years.  He's gonna leave for the next best gig-- I hope he doesn't but the fact that he entertained job openings shows he knows how the game is played.

We can offer an extension and raise and hope he enjoys living here.  Hope can be a dangerous thing.

the extension has benefits for both sides. Give him some extra cash, but increase the buyout.

We’re over here losing our best players  more then likely to power 5 teams and Penny Hardaway is getting some of the best talent from the AAC to transfer to his school. He got Haggerty and now Colby rogers from Wichita State one of the best 3 point shooters in the nation. Both of them had big time school trying to get them and Penny got them, either his a good sales man or they got some NIL funds.

Memphis basketball is much more established than we are. They also have donors with large pockets.

Can we ban the phrase "can't blame him for.../ can't blame the players for..." from TBP? It's beginning to be overused. If this is a business, then we can stop looking at these players like kids who have a genuine desire to play college ball while getting a free education for the team that put a lot of time, resources, and efforts into bringing them to USF. They have no loyalty to our program/ school. Players today are loyal to the dollar and that's it. So when I'm looking for someone to blame, I'm going to blame the athlete who chooses to leave USF to get money and attention for himself. That's what I'm going to do, don't fault me for having my own opinion, everyone else on here can do as they please. I won't criticize you for it, I'm only critical of the overused phrasing lol.

you just need to realize that this is now pro sports.

Pope to Kentucky (finally someone take the gig) ... will make BYU open .... let the speculation begin....

A former Kentucky player, BYU's Mark Pope is finalizing a five-year deal to be the Wildcats' next head coach, sources told ESPN.

    Still wouldn't be a given

CAAR would be an odd fit at BYU, but depending on who BYU hires it's possible. My guess is BYU hires an asst or a head coach at our level. Pope to UK prob means those dominos will not effect USF. We are almost in the clear.

The reality of this is a punch in the gut.

I was ok with Sam Hines as he was looking for a way to get his playing time higher. But a Star player leaving for money is pretty lame.

Declaring for the NBA is one thing but transferring to a different school for money is another.

CAAR should try to get Hines back. He will get some more minutes.

It’s the new world of college athletics and being stuck in the minor league AAC. Just wait until the uproar after next football season when #17 transfers. Hope Izzy Carter is ready.

BB will 100% transfer unless he has a bad year.

He wrote, "I have decided to Declare for the 2024 NBA Draft! I will also be entering my name into the transfer portal, keeping my remaining year of eligibility"

Anyone with a little more insight on this that can chime in? I don't believe this is an option for football, is this just an option for basketball? Ability to declare for the draft and keep your college eligibility, if you enter the portal while doing so?

you can enter, but if you hire an agent you are done.

There is good players that stay at mid major programs for their coach, like FAU and this year UAB.i know they don’t have Big NIL money. So the coach and school must not mean nothing to them which is fine, it’s understandable.

I wish them nothing but the best, but I think 2 out of the 3 will be disappointed next year when they aren’t getting the play time they like or the freedom to shoot like they want. They might get some money but might be taking 2 steps back in the process.

I think as soon as CAAR gets a good P5 of he will be gone because good players leaving like this doesn’t make his job easier.Unless we start being able to pay these players there is no other way.

None of those guys are likely to play in the NBA, 4 or so will likely play pro but overseas. If they get a 6 figure payday, there is 0 reason not to take it. We all would likely do the same.
