1. I believe it is because of the SunDome being reserved for another event... maybe wrong, would not be the first, nor the last... why am I still up?... I'm sure I will be slurring my speech in the AM
2. You also have to consider the chances of getting to go to the NC... where would the voters rank an unbeaten USF team? would it be similar to what Boise got last year? unbeaten, but not playing for the NC... an unbeaten, maybe even a 1 loss Arizona team, right or wrong, could be ranked ahead of the Bulls and thus a shot at the NC as opposed to where the voters rank USF
3. It's actually very cool to be listed... there are 70 schools not listed and the fact that we are not included in the field is a huge compliment... WVU is actually the second favorite at 7-1 just behind USC and with that game being at home I would rather wager $20 on USF at 300-1, than $10 on WVU
4. I discussed on the morning show today... 49 teams listed, the field consists of 70 schools Odds to win 2008 BCS Championship January 23, 2007 By VI News VegasInsider.com Odds provided by Sportsbook.com Odds to win 2008 BCS National Championship School Odds Alabama 75-1 Arizona 150-1 Arizona St 100-1 Arkansas 30-1 Auburn 60-1 BYU 100-1 Boise St 150-1 Boston College 100-1 California 60-1 Clemson 75-1 Colorado 100-1 Florida 8-1 Florida St 30-1 Georgia 40-1 Georgia Tech 200-1 Hawaii 200-1 Iowa 75-1 Kansas St 200-1 LSU 10-1 Louisville 60-1 Maryland 150-1 Miami FL 60-1 Michigan 8-1 Missouri 100-1 Nebraska 25-1 North Carolina St 200-1 Notre Dame 60-1 Ohio St 30-1 Oklahoma 18-1 Oklahoma St 200-1 Oregon 100-1 Oregon St 200-1 Penn St 25-1 Pittsburgh 200-1 Purdue 300-1 Rutgers 60-1 South Carolina 75-1 South Florida 300-1 TCU 100-1 Tennessee 60-1 Texas 12-1 Texas A&M 60-1 Texas Tech 100-1 UCLA 75-1 USC 7-2 Virginia Tech 25-1 Wake Forest 150-1 West Virginia 7-1 Wisconsin 30-1 Field (Any Other Team) 50-1
5. Without getting into a debate of the likes/dislikes of the Chix, the SportChix can bring out the human side in just about every interview subject... what they are able to accomplish at an event like Radio Row at the SuperBowl is unparallelled... there are guests that are lined up to talk to the girls... if I were to use a contrast, for example, Steve Deumig (because he is the topic of this thread), nobody wants to talk to the guy (not picking on him, just the facts)... guests have to be begged and pleaded to do the interview, they know they will be asked one set of questions and then potentially be blindsided when they leave, only to find out about it much later I have seen Boomer Esiason doing an interview with the Chix, only to see Deion Sanders, Dan Marino, Rich Eisen, and others waiting their turn... perhaps the girls knowledge of sports is not what yours or mine is, and perhaps their style is not necessarily your style of choice, but they do get a lot of respect from the guests as the guests know they will get a lot of respect from the girls... and they work extremely hard to do something that may not come as natural to them as it does to others... If you truly were looking for an answer, I hope was able to answer your somewhat sarcastic question. Mike Pepper
6. On this note, I can tell you that sports show is pre-empted in many parts of the country.  Saturday mornings are prime spots for local shows.  Deumig's national show is carried in Tampa because of his Tampa affiliation... I will take a little exception with the 'Lighthall does not talk up USF' comment.  (sorry, I think I read this from an above post, but I'm not real hip on the quote and highlight thing, this was my first time to do that... so if I screwed it up I only screwed it up once)  Jim and Tom give the updates on 1010, they are not expected by anyone at 1010 to come up with a topic.  Neither one of them are afraid to talk USF, as a matter of fact, when Al Keck or the SportChix mention USF, they ask Lighthall, who is, I think, the most informative Bulls source in the Tampa Bay area.  If there is any USF happenings, Jim and Tom will probably have it as their lead story.  And the Chix do interview both Coach Fernandez and Coach Prado Wednesdays from 5-6pm at the Bull Ring (although next week the show will be on Monday as the girls will be in Miami for SuperBowl)... an hour that brings USF athletics to the limelight in PM drive time Also, for those who feel there needs to be more USF talk, 1010 is now local in the morning.  Tom Krasniqi does 6-7am and it is open for your phone calls.  I do a show from 7-9am, and it too is open to phone calls.  There is plenty of opportunity to talk USF on 1010... rarely would I shy away from talking USF (although today was probably one of those days as it was a big day for Tony and a pretty miserable weekend for the Bball teams)... probably a good alternative to those who despise Sileo Even Tony Bruno talked USF... albeit, when the Coach Fernandez, American Idol comments came out... not a lot of national shows did that If anyone has any concerns about what 1010 does or not does (is that right?) feel free to email at pepper@wqyk.com and I will do my best to answer the questions you may have Mike Pepper
7. 'The SportChix Shootin' the Bull with Jose and Lelo' will premiere this Wednesday on 1010 Sports the Beast... the Chix will broadcast their show live from 3-6 at Zimbo's Bull Ring on Fowler... the coaches will join them for the 5 o'clock hour to discuss anything that may be on their minds... come out and enjoy the show... if you can't make it this week, try to do so over the next few weeks... and as always you can just tune in to 1010... 1010 also is now local in the mornings and both hosts have USF ties... Tom Krasniqi, the women's play-by-play radio voice, hosts from 6-7am, and I host a show from 7-9am... for those who don't know I graduated from USF where I played soccer in the late 80's... I have also been the football sideline reporter for the last 6 years... Just thought everybody might be interested in a chance to hear more about USF on the radio... Mike Pepper
8. Al Keck spoke USF for the first 20 minutes at one o'clock on 1010 Sports... with the Coach
9. Barry Pepper?... Glad to know I have such an impact... obviously suspence has no idea about the college sidelines... just try to get an answer from the training/coaching staff during the game... 95% of the time, my reports come from observation... Andre Hall was in the kickoff return huddle and told to go back to the sideline... There was no trainer working on Hall in the 4th quarter... Hall had his helmet on while standing on the sideline in the 4th quarter... there was no, I mean zero, news given on Hall during this time... This is the great thing about message boards... people can just say anything they want under, for the most part, an anonymous name, accusing people of not doing their job... I can assure you the questions were asked, they just were not answered. Thanks for listening Mike Pepper
