  1. Hopefully, the coaches are going to let him be mobile if the pass plays are not there. I don't remember our program ever being successful with pocket passers. This is what annoys me about this offense (a lot of motions and pocket passing). I miss the days of the mobile QB who can run IF the pass play is not there. Wishful thinking though.
  2. I am hoping and think he may be a home run hire. If anything, he comes from an environment that competes with several pro teams, a transient community, a community that has fans from other schools, and a city where you have more choices to spend your money/time. Just from what I see in Atlanta, I think GT/GSU have a hard time getting respect from the casual fan.
  3. Was the cupboard so bare that we'd get rolled by Mcneese and FAU at home? I think not. it's not simply the cupboard being bare, but the positions at which it was bare... this OLine is absolutely the most pathetic OLine in FBS football. we have two atrocious walk-ons at QB and a transfer who only had a couple of months to learn the plays. u cannot win without an OLine. combine that with some of the worst QBs in D1 football and a transfer who is maybe 50-75% into the playbook and it spells epic losses. Holtz never had it this bad. Leavitt left talent on the team. he was fired for a situation in the lockerroom, not for poor play by his teams on the field. Got to agree with this. This game looked bad. If Holtz was still the coach, I am sure he would have been 0-3 making stupid decisions. If this team makes progress throughout the year, I will be happy with this. I am not expecting much; just hoping next year we are a lot stronger and competitive and getting back to the JL days.
  4. Ok, let's say I concede that. Is that automatically Tag's fault? Does that mean he didn't do his best to instill that mindset in the locker room? If you say yes, can you provide some details showing this, since you were in the locker room? Of course, it couldn't have anything to do with the fact that this is game 1, week 1, coming off of our worst season ever, with a new coach putting in a new system after graduating a bunch of seniors and starting a QB making just his 2nd start ever, right? Why is it so hard to put some of the blame on the players? Agree with this. This team has to learn to win. This game would have helped, but it will probably take some time for Tags to get going.
  5. This is what cracks me up. Jim Mora did not coach Michael Vick. Mora caved into whatever Vick did. Mora had no control over Vick and after Mora was fired Vick got in trouble for dog fighting. To me he is another "just" coach who is the son of another famous coach. However, he is doing well at UCLA. Concerning this topic, I cannot wait till NSD just see this topic die. Whatever this kid chooses, good for him. You are treated like a god when recruited you and then taken to McDonalds after you sign. He is a kid who will become an adult and part of life is accepting the decisions you make.
  6. Years ago, I remember everyone was so high on a quarterback that followed through on his commitment to USF. After the years of Banks and Julmiste at QB, we all looked forward to C4 (Carlton Hill). However, there was another great QB (Grothe) that was in this same class who did not get the attention until he played. MW and AW seem to be like them in some way with AW getting all of the attention and MW as a diamond in the rough. I am hoping for two QBs in this class as well as some good RBs. However, I have a feeling MW might be our next Grothe; a winner, a team leader, and someone who seriously wants and will put the time in to improve himself. I have high hopes for him (after all his team did win state).
  7. I am happy with this hire. The play on the field will be the determining factor. This quote means a lot "Our motto is to be physical relentless and intelligent". This is something that I have seen with USF's defense since '97. It has been missing lately. This is an NFL DC coming to USF. The NFL is on a totally higher level than college. Of course, we can have Cosh/Holtz back, or something like that and we can hear quotes of "We competed, We tried". F that; I would rather have a guy with intensity. He even looks like a guy with this intensity.
  8. Maybe I am in the minority, but I am glad we are not publicly announcing our intentions. This could always come to back to bite Cincy and Uconn in the ???. Why tell everyone what your deck of cards looks like? In the end, we need to win. The potential is here. We just need to win. I am getting sick of all of this conference stuff. If we join the ACC, SEC, BIG whatever, at the end of the day, I care about USF winning and having a recognized brand. ESPN seemed to focus more on the SEC and winning teams this past year. The money is better in these conferences; however, I don't think conference reshuffling will ever quit. JUST WIN.
  9. I went to the LSU vs UNC game a couple of years ago (my wife is an LSU alum). This is the same game that UNC had about 12 kids suspended for the game. LSU was up 30-10 at the half. UNC came back and made it a game in the 2nd half, a game which came down to the last play of the game. UNC adjusted in the 2nd half and took advantage of LSU in that half. UNC also did not hold back, very aggressive play. The moral of the story here is that Butch (from the looks of that game) adjusted pretty well. The only other game that I saw Butch coach UNC was against us in 07.
  10. Multiple reports have said this is this case. True? Only USF knows Why don't we have people scouring charter flights to figure out who is flying where? do you have access to the flight manifests? Can't they do the interviews over the phone or video conferencing? I am sure a lot of these coaches have probably seen, been by, or inside our facilities.
  11. Besides getting the recruits, I think the other thing that he will bring to the table is an improved running game, and this something we need at USF. I am sure and hope he surrounds himself with good coordinators.
  12. Twitter is a dangerous thing. Lots of conflicting "Sources." I trust Greg more than anyone though. He actually makes phone calls instead of getting things second hand. what the AD said could be true and we still may have talked with taggart. Or, the AD does not want to cause any panic with the fanbase yet; even though Twitter is already doing it. I am sure the AD is wanting to ensure that the fans buy tickets to their bowl game. It is also probably fitting to have Willie coach (since he is an alum who got them there) the bowl game.
  13. I will believe it when I see it. Maybe Dungy is helping with the search. I would even say Gruden has helped by hooking DW up with candidates (placement service). However, does anyone get the feeling that DW has already talked to somebody and negotiations are already under way (more like the assistant's pool)? I get the feeling that some surprise is going to get pulled out of the hat that will make the majority of us say, "Holy crap, we got ????" (excited holy crap). I also feel it is going to be someone that was not mentioned in the media. Somebody who is unhappy in current HC position, but wants things quiet until it is announced??? The only reason that I am basing this is that he is not using a search firm (in a traditional sense), and he does not want to make the same mistake twice. I just think there are more than DW involved in the search. Of course, I could be wrong.
  14. USF is great job to have. A portion of a coaches time is spent recruiting and going to HS games. A short trip by car is a little bit better than a long road trip or flight. Travelling wears on you after a while. I travel about every week with my job, and I always wish for some local time. I think this, right there coupled in the with the opportunity to win, the opportunity to become a legend (yes, coaches do have egos), and the opportunity to make good money is there. No slap against the other universities in the other conferences, including the SEC; however, why do some coaches go there if you are on a short leash to begin with. This may be why some coaches are asking for guaranteed money contracts. This has to sit in the back of some of these coaches mind.
  15. Totally agree. I think Skip understands what people think of him. He is gone after Saturday, next year, or he will leave for another university if he is successful next year. Week after week, he seems less passionate and zoned out. It kind of makes you wonder how much effort he puts into watching film. I, for one, miss having a passionate coach (a little more relaxed) on the sideline. This why I hope they make a change soon to get the right coach and not the next name in the list.
