  1. In 2006 and 2008 UF did not have a power running game but they did have a bunch of fast guys that played good football and they were consistent about running the ball. Right now at USF and even over the last 4 to 5 years the offense has not had an identity. Is this a passing team or is this a running team?
  2. I am not sure whether USF can run the ball or if the coaching staff chooses not to run the ball with RBs. Looking at the rushing attempts across the Big East this week. USF: 29 (BJ Daniels 15 Attempts) Rutgers: 42 Pitt: 55 UConn: 40 Louisville: 43 Syracuse: 45 Cincy: 49 Temple: DNP If the plan is to shift to a pass heavy offense then I expect to see shorter quicker passes. Which I have not seen in the first three games. at this point I am not see USF to anything consistently on offense to help them move the ball down the field. NOTE: I think I saw more screen passes at the Notre Dame game than I have see all this season.
  3. + freakin' one. I am surprised the offense has not used more screens to WR. The depth and team speed is there to spread teams out. It appears the coaching staff is content with chucking the ball deep.
  4. Holtz has established more depth at various positions compared to Leavitt. But Leavitt got more out of the players. IMO neither Leavitt nor Holtz have done a good job at developing players on the offensive side of the ball.
  5. That is true Rutgers was way more physical and aggressive than USF on both sides of the ball. Although the Rutgers offense we relatively simple their offensive line controlled the USF defensive line, there was little to no pass rush, hence the 3rd down conversions.
  6. ? Nevadas offense is basically the same as WV's offense, just weaker. There is excuse for not knowing what to expect... Now the altitude is another story alltogether. West Virginia never emphasized running up the middle in their offense. Their focus was to spread the defense out.
  7. Wow not sure how long that video has been up but it almost has 1000 hits.
  8. Very Funny BA. See you at the Temple game.
  9. I disagree. He abandoned the run game in the second half. Especially in the 3rd quarter when the defense needed it after the Lamar touchdown. USF can not afford to give up on the run. Our O-Line should be able to wear to wear teams down. 3rd Quarter Rushes 10 (3 Murray, 2 Lamar, 4 Daniels, 1 Hopkins) 4th Quarter Rushes 3 (1 Murray, 2 Daniels)
  10. I think this concern will continue when San Diego and Boise join the conference.
  11. i know i am anxious for the game to start. i wonder how the players feel
  12. The Big Patch Work The Gumbo Conference I-10, I-40, I-80, I-90 The Coast to Coast Conference
  13. I don't think people will travel from coast to coast for a football. At this point I would rather hear contraction talk rather than expansion talk. There are too many teams and no consistency in the conference between football and the other sports.
  14. USF will use three to four running backs this year and there will be a good level of competition between the Summer and Fall for the three and four spots. With the use of more running backs I also expect USF to use more two back sets with a higher likelihood to check down to the RBs similar to the Spring game. Since USF will lose Murray, Lamar and Battles at the end of the year the coaches will need to make sure Shaw and Davis get more game time experience. Davis especially needs game time experience since he largely contributed on the scout team last year. Based on high school tape I believe Davis and be a break out player going into next season based on size and speed. It is hard to place where Pierre will end up since he is new to the overall system since he did not participate in the spring game and is learning the offense. 1. Demetrius Murray (R. Sr) 6'0 224 2. Lindsey Lamar (Sr) 5'9 3. Marcus Shaw (Jr) 5'9 191 4. Bradley Battles (Sr) 5'9 206 5. Willie Davis (R Fr) 5'9 203 6. Michael Pierre (Jr) 5'11 200 (JUCO Transfer)
  15. That would appear to be true. Typically both teams split the payout of the game . So in the past few years BCS games paid out around $18 M. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_college_bowl_games#2006.E2.80.932007_to_present Its worth noting that some conferences pool all the bowl money together and redistribute through the conference members.
  16. I do not think this is a matter of breaking away from the established systems. In the past alterantive leagues have not done so well (XFL and USFL to the NFL) or they have folded into the larger more established organizations (WCW -> WWE or even ABA -> NBA). College football is not a "professional" {I use that loosely} and potential players should not have the choose between which league to join and there should be every opporunity for the various teams to play each other. With that said the Big East has a marketing problem. First they need someone in place that can provide the confidence to schools, administrators, coaches, players, alumni and the media that the league is going in the right direction. Once that level of assurance is established which ever network carries the BE should provide the conduit to make that vision become a reality.
  17. Other than Thursday or Friday night games, when has any BE game been in prime time on ESPN? I can remember Auburn/USF Saturday night five years ago and beyond that I am willing to hear from other people. ESPN has pushed BE football to side and taken it out of the lime light. Since ESPN pays the big bucks to the other conferences they have to push them out front to increase advertising dollars. There is certain amount of leverage that Comcast (The largest US Cable Provider) which happens to own NBC Universal can do to position the product.
  18. Thank you - I've been saying this for a while now. **** big east front office. we should have signed an $80M deal with the rose bowl years ago! what are they doing! anybody who thinks the big east has any leverage when it comes to bowls and tv contracts is delusional. we would lose a ton of money by splitting off. would be dumb beyond belief. we still get a cut of playoff money. So using that logic how long should the BE stay in the backwash of the other Major conferences (SEC, ACC, BIG 12, PAC 12, BIG 10)? The BE is obviously not a power broker in the BCS / Championship Series conversation. So if they want to get the appropriate level of attention it is better suited for them to take their Regular season to another network other than Disney/ESPN.
  19. At this point one can almost consider ESPN/Disney operating as a monopoly for BCS football. With that said.... The Big East should consider striking a deak with Comcast / NBCUniversal. Considering the markets of the upcoming BE schools (Tampa, Orlando, NY/NJ, Phildelpha, Houston, Dallas, etc) this can be a good platform for NBC to provide competition to ESPN in the college football market. This might be and emphasis on might be enough to lure Notre Dame as a full time member with the possible subtraction of a few other teams.
  20. How will the extra pounds impact him running track?
  21. looking at the measurables a 5'10 215 and the video on this kid he looks like he could be a pretty decent running back in college. One can imagine any college would put another 10 pounds on this kid and with the way he runs in high school he is definitely a ground and pound style runner. It would be nice for USF to reel him in.
  22. Sitting back and watching old USF football games. In the DVD tonight USF vs. Auburn 9/8/2007. Can not believe it was 5 years ago.
