Best case? Jeff Scott was most of our problems and Golesh is a wonderkid playcaller. Going up against a MUCH weaker schedule (we get WKU/UCONN instead of BYU/Louisville and UTSA/Memphis/FAU/UAB instead of UCF/Cincy/Houston/Tulane) USF rolls to 10-2 record. At 5-1 going into homecoming vs FAU USF unveils the OCS plans during the festivities, including a new strip of bars a quarter mile from the stadium on the Fletcher edge of what used to be the claw. We crush FAU so bad there is no talk of a rivalry afterwards. Golesh decides to stay after the season because we just got invited to be the FSU ACC backfill.

Worst case? Todd Orlando is no better than the last couple guys to try and fix this defense, Golesh's offense has growing pains. But with the tempo that means quick 3 and outs back to the worst D in the country. FAU crushes us and Tom Herman leads them to a NY6 bowl, all the talk is about how they made that and a final four in 1 year. While we haven't made a bowl in 5 years and a NCAA tourney in 10. We get passed by another Florida school in relevancy. We finish 2-10. The fanbase becomes so apathetic USF decides to go back and redo the stadium design for half the price, which pushes back the opening date by a year.

It’s painful that this worst case scenario is now my expected USF path based on the past 5 years.

Now the rumor is that they didn't get the GoR locked in today and B1G is making another push for Oregon and Washington, and Arizona going to Big 12 again.

I just want off the wild ride. Fast forward to the end and let me know where it all ends up

It ends with us kicking off the 2037 ACC season on the road at Wake Forest.

If they stick together and sign a new GOR as rumored, they'd only need to replace one school (Colorado) and wouldn't really need to expand to prevent extinction. None of the schools you've listed "move the needle" in terms of increasing revenue to the overall conference. I'd expect them to stick at 10 (probably add SDSU to have a presence in southern California) at least for the term of the new GOR. Maybe they add a couple down the road, but nothing to date suggests that they are progressive when it comes to expansion.

I think that they would have learned from their mistakes, the Big East demise, and B12's aggressive expansion to add schools now. Especially if those schools are getting reduced shares and have to show up with Apple subscriptions to gain more money. I'd think they would "at least" go to 12 with SDSU, SMU, and likely UNLV.

That's the question. Is the SEC interested in grabbing FSU/Clem? Other candidates for both conferences include UNC and VaTech. Personally I think the SEC should grab them, and force the B1G to reconsider southern expansion without a "Grade A" option available. The SEC is also transitioning new schools though.

Ugh so stressful. What a wild time in realignment.

EDIT: The advantage for the B1G is that they're worth much more to them for the BTN, than they are worth to the SEC.

I had read an article a few years back at Georgia Tech was actually a desired Big 10 market based on Academics and the Atlanta market. I'd be interested to see if they favored them over FSU, Miami, Virginia, or UNC now.

  5. If I've learned one thing about the Pac 12 is that they are going to be ultra conservative (ala Big East football). If they are able to hold onto Arizona (which I don't expect); they will be stuck at 9. They may decide to add just either SMU or SDSU to settle at 10. I don't think they will go to 12 as I don't believe they will be able to agree on a third member to add. Additionally, Oregon and Washington will not agree to a GOR which will make expansion more difficult and will depress any TV deal.

Let's say they add SMU to get to 10 for 2024. Then Oregon and Washington leave for the the Big 10 or the Big 12 for 2025. This will leave the Pac 12 sitting at 8. They will likely agree to add only two more to get to 10. Rice, Fresno State, UNLV Colorado State, Air Force? Who knows. But I'd be very skeptical about the Pac 12 being aggressive. Because they could have added SDSU, Houston, SMU, and BYU years ago to have avoided this mess. They didn't learn from it then and won't do it now.

    Where does that leave USF?

100% in the ACC in 2037.

The only way USF gets into the Big 12 in the interim is if the Pac 12 firm and stops the bleeding with a GOR and the Big 12 has to choose between USF or UConn to get to 14. There is no TV network or University president that would select Memphis or UNLV over either.

The only way USF gets into the ACC earlier than 2037 is for FSU or Miami to leave for the SEC or Big 10.

Either way. I'm just going to enjoy watching Golesh build this program, enjoying the new stadium, and hopefully some AAC championships.

Looks like everyone's moving to Tampa and Orlando. Expanding conferences really need to keep this fact in mind, plus:

    • AAU
    • Large public institution
    • Large media market
    • Significant (recent) investment in athletics

We need to focus on winning some ballgames. I'm optimistic that everything else will work out - eventually.

Exactly. When you look at the numbers, there isn't a more viable candidate for expansion that checks all of these boxes. You'd have to imagine that University Presidents and TV network executives are smart enough to analyze this data and come to a logical conclusion.

  7. Potential Options:

    Scenario #1

Big 12 goes to 16 with ASU, Arizona, and Utah

Pac 12 goes to 12 with SMU (2024 addition), SDSU & UNLV (2025 additions)

    Scenario #2

Big 12 goes to 14 with UConn or USF

Pac 12 goes to 12 with SMU (2024 addition), SDSU & UNLV (2025 additions)

    Scenario #3

Big 12 goes to 16 with UConn (2024) USF and Tulane (2026)

Pac 12 goes to 14 with SMU (2024 addition), SDSU, UNLV, Colorado State, Fresno State (2025)

    Scenario #4

Big 12 goes to 14 with UConn

Pac 12 goes to 16 with SMU, USF, Tulane, Memphis (2024); SDSU, UNLV, Colorado State (2025)

  8. First, I trust this coaching staff to make the right decision.

It seems to me that McCloud has the confidence of the locker room and is a respected young man. I was very impressed by Johnson's film; but McCloud must be adapting well to the new system. The long term upside of McCloud is that we could potentially see four years of McCloud at QB. Might was well give him some experience if they believe he has the tools. Let's get behind Jordan and support this team!

  9. Clemmons committed to Minnesota without visiting due to his apparent relationship with the DB coach. Just a few days after signing day the DB coach (Jahmile Addae) left to take another job at West Virginia. Clemmons was reportedly looking at Kentucky and USF before committing to the Gophers. You'd have to think they would be in the running again. Perhaps WVU as well, although I'd imagine some trust was lost with Jahmile departing so quickly after Kelvin's commitment. Alonso HS product with family local.
