Also worth noting that the prospect the rays got back is rule 5 eligible next season.

I'm not loving this trade either. He was our primary 9th inning reliever, and even though he would scare me to death with his walks, more times than not he was able to lock it down. So now who will be the Closer? Guess next man up.
"On the Rays side of things, while Alvarado is probably talented enough that a contender should want to keep him, Tampa had other fish to fry. They needed to clear a 40-man spot to complete the Snell deal, and this did just that. Plus, the Rays have shown an ability to materialize relievers out of the ether on a monthly basis, so dealing from this area from the roster is far from egregious. There may be some salary reasoning here with Alvarado reaching arbitration, but I’d give them the benefit of the doubt."
To some it up, needed space so that they could complete the trading of their ace, deepest position group, cheaper option. Win win situation for the Rays.

I just worry that we will be just good enough to be a wild card team and compete in the playoffs but won't have that big time starter (Snell) to push us over the top
yep......That's the goal. Them over the top guys is expensive.

That’s fine but it’s a process. One that can’t really start until a coach gets his QB. And you can say that he should have brought one in but really he did. It’s just COVID and injuries kept him off the field. You can’t just **** on everything he does from day one.

Would he need to?

Has there been a single day where this staff hasn’t underwhelmed? Sure we got most of our recruits earlier but even with the chance to supplement today we ended up overall below a team without a coach, in the 60’s overall and middle of the pack of the AAC,realy not any different than CCS’ classes and only better than CJS’ first class. At least we can rely on all of that great game planning, game day coaching and player development we saw exhibited last season...
Have you ever viewed anything USF related as positive since 2009?
that's a cute line about UCF, ignores a lot of context but still cute. I can't help you Puc, i'm sorry. I think the only way for you to be happy is to follow Leavitt around so maybe try "Go Mustangs" on, see how it fits.

For those disappointed, remember, this is now a secondary signing day. Most of the top targets signed in December and this time around coaches are snagging transfers, or the school they were locked in with fired their coach to close to the early signing day, and filling out their remaining holes.
Translation, there's not many higher than average prospects available and almost none are looking here.

But it’s the reality. The starters need them to improve. Sure there may be a flyer in there who gets some PT but many will be gone within 2 years. It’s a business.
2 hours ago, Triple B said:Didn't say it wasn't a reality, just a **** way to describe kids who'll be working their asses off for basically nothing ...
the reality is, they are on the roster. If practice squad doesn't count for anything try telling a coach he doesn't need one.
These kids are either on or are grey shirting to be on the roster. Anything can happen, especially in this next coming season as we aren't and probably won't be cleared of Covid protocols.

From everything I’ve read, he’s legit. But PG has him at a 10. There aren’t enough picks in the draft for the number of 10s they give out, let alone “very high draft picks.” Perfect Game is still handing out 9.0s - 9.5s to the 500th ranked HS player.
In 2019 (I skipped last year since it was odd), 1100 players are tied for 500th. That means PG has 1600 kids ranked in the top 500.
The last kid drafted in 2019 from PG’s rankings was 451 and went in the 13th round. So literally hundreds of kids were labeled elite college prospect or on the cusp of very high draft pick and didn’t end up with a sniff of either.
yeah, they throw a wide net so they can say they labeled the ones that go correctly while ignore the rest. Politics plays a part as well. It's about as reliable as the star ratings. But for him, the eye test looked really good as a Soph.

Here are the ones PG ranked in our 2020 class. 9 is a "potential top 10 round pick and/or highest level college prospect." 10 is a "potential very high draft pick and/or elite level college prospect." Guess how many actually got drafted after PG declaring them to be round 10 picks or better, with 2 of them being the equivalent of 5 star football prospects.
Drew Brutcher - 10
Albert Hernandez - 10
Matthew Ruiz - 9.5
Richey Lakes - 9
Nelson Rivera - 9
Saw a young Brutcher in person..... looked the part

To play devil's advocate,
Lol no way in hell USF is ever going to be recognized in every day conversation outside of Tampa for its "academic status." I'm sorry, I'm even an education graduate but its the reality. No one will look at your resume and say, "holy crap you went to USF?? Thats such an amazing academic school!" But they might say, "oh you went to that school that had those couple of undefeated seasons and claims a national title?"
I'm sorry but its the truth. Even if we pass FSU in academic standards no one will care, FSU is always going to be more "recognizable" than USF in every sense. When we were #2 we were the talk of the nation and no one cares now.
USF winning a conference title in football would give me more pure joy and happiness (tell me I'm wrong) than any "pre-eminent status" stuff. Sounds ignorant but its the truth.
If you see a school on a resume and think about their football team, im not sure you are very well versed in what schools are better than others.

I really didn't think he looked that much worse than TB. I don't think 2 of the 3 picks could be placed on him, unless Kamara ran the right route and he threw the wrong one. Bucs just made the crucial plays when they had to, especially the Cook fumble and the Tyler Johnson catch on 3rd down .....
I can’t really pin point a play but it didn’t seem like the Saints could press the Bucs down the field and were reluctant to do so. I believe his yards per attempt was very low. Working on finding that number again but if you google Brees and deep ball you can find multiple articles highlighting that it was an issue before the ribs and could only get worse after.

I felt really bad for Brees. I think he's been class act most of his career and that's a horrible way to end it ..... The rest of the Saints, especially their head coach, can eat **** and die.
That rib injury really hampered him. It just didn't look like he could get the ball where it needed to go.
I've seen rumors of the making a run a Dak or Watson.....if that happens, watch out.
Of course that only if Brees walks.

I still give Switzer’s SB to Jimmie and Jimmie’s team Barry was not worth a flip IMO.
He won it two years after Jimmy left. Not saying he is great but he gets credit for his SB.
It's not like jimmy was Bill Belichick.

Arians started at Temple and bounced back and forth for a little bit.

I'm not sure he ever steps on campus with that size and already touching 90. I will be down in Ft Myers this weekend and it looks like he is playing. I might pop over if I can find out when he is pitching.
He is only gonna get stronger for sure. Seems to stay in the zone pretty well. Small sample size though
