  1. At the end of a successful season in which the South Florida Bulls achieved the greatest turn around in the NCAA and won the Roman CBI Championship, fans are clamoring for more more Bulls basketball. Excitement is up for next season as is interest for season tickets. In the discussion around the Bulls potential schedule two pieces of information were discussed by board members at The Bulls Pen. First, per @JonRothstein on Twitter, it was found that the Bulls may be participating in the 2019 Cayman Islands Classic (website) : On April 18, the American Athletic Conference release indicated that the SEC/American Alliance match-ups for the 2019-20 season will be officially announced in late May. The schools will then proceed to determine dates for these games, and all four showdowns will be carried on ESPN networks. More USF discussion HERE. Based on last year's schedule announcements we may hear about the Bulls 2019 conference schedule in mid-June. The non-conference schedule was released in mid-July last year. Undoubtedly, in year three of the Brian Gregory rebuild, the Bulls will be seeking to improve the level of non-conference opponents. View full story
  2. In the final game of the weekend series, the previously unproductive The Citadel Bulldogs (who had managed just 3 runs in 18 innings) came alive. In game three, they jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to a wild Alec Wisely and three hits, one USF error and five walks. Fortunately, the Bulls responded with two runs on one hit and one error. Wisely's line on the day: 0.2 IP, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 Hits, 4 BBs, 1 K and 1 HR given up (to leadoff batter). Wisely's performance blew his ERA up to 6.43 on the season. His relief help was somewhat more successful, but still pushed around a bit. Dylan Burns and Nelson Alvarez followed in relief and couldn't stop the Bulldog onslaught surrendering a combined 3 runs on five hits and four walks in 3.2 innings of work. FInally, Richie Cruz came in to sew down the pitching trouble, completing the final 4 2/3 innings without allowing a single run. Cruz struck out three and walked one. It was a rough game for the Bulls, but rougher for The Citadel. Of the Bulls' 12 runs, just five were earned as the four Bulldog errors allowed seven other runs to cross the plate. The Bulls did outhit the Bulldogs, 10-9, with four of those hits coming in the six run Bulls 4th. In that inning, Joe Genord created some highlight tape with a bases clearing three run double. He next moved to third base on a wild pitch, later stealing home as Chris Chatfield swiped second. Genord finished the game three for five with six RBI. Joining the first baseman with a multi-hit day was Dylan Buck and Alex Bello - the freshmen each going two for five on the day. That's two wins today and three for the weekend equaling a series sweep of The Citadel. The Bulls are back in action Wednesday, in Ft. Myers, against Florida Gulf Coast University.
  3. 04/20/19 Tampa, FL - The South Florida bats continued to work in game two of a three game series with The Citadel. Four Bulls enjoyed multi-hit games in the first half of today's doubleheader. Jake Sullivan, Jordan Santos, Brandon Schrepf and Alex Bello each had two hits. Joe Genord added another home run (12) and three RBI to the boxscore. Overall, the Bulls scored seven runs on 12 hits. Collin Sullivan took the mound for the Bulls and tossed six innings of four hit ball. He yielded two runs, one earned, while walking only one batter. Logan Lyle relieved Sullivan in the seventh and continued the pitching mastery giving up five hits but no runs over the final three frames. Lyle struck out five. But the Bulldogs jumped on top early against Sullivan, plating two runs in the top of the third. A walk, followed by a wild pitch and then a sacrifice bunt put a Citadel baserunner on third with one out. That runner would score on a fielder's choice. A second runner would reach base with a single, ultimately scoring an unearned run on an error on Bulls rightfielder Brandon Schrepf. The Bulls otherwise efficient game was marred by three errors in the field. The Bulls topped the Bulldogs 9-1 on Thursday before taking a "bad weather" day on Saturday. This gives the Bulls two straight wins for the first time since April 10. Winning the final game of the series would provide the struggling Bulls their first sweep since the Dartmouth series March 15-17.
  4. 04/19/19 Tampa, FL - Ticket news for Bulls fans! While season tickets for the upcoming season have been on sale for some time now, South Florida is now offering two additional ticket packages. Of course, season tickets guarantee you the same seat for seven home games and are a preferred option for a long term Bulls fan, but these packages allow some flexibility a season ticket does not entirely offer. First, who is on the 2019 schedule? 2019 features a Bulls fan's favorite - seven home games. The season starts with a sure to be ranked Wisconsin Badger team to open the season on August 30. The Bulls and Badgers matchup is followed by another non-conference opponent, South Carolina State (9/14) and then an early season in-conference matchup with SMU (9/28). On October 12, the Bulls return home to face P5 independent BYU. The home schedule rounds out with AAC matchups against Temple (11/7), Cincinnati (11/16) and Memphis (11/23). Two home P5 games increases the value of season tickets. And don't forget, getting season tickets at USFBullsTix.com this year guarantees your right to renewal the same seats for future foes, Texas, Nevada, Florida, Louisville and N.C. State. New 2019 packages now available include the Boundless Bulls Pass and the Horns Up Pass. The Boundless Bulls Pass offers fans 10 ticket vouchers redeemable through their mobile phone for any of the Bulls' seven home games, in any combination for just $175, or $17.50 per game. Fans can choose the games that fit their schedule and have the tickets used for each game seated together. Seat vouchers can be redeemed beginning on Aug. 1. For more information or to purchase a Boundless Bulls Pass, use this link or call 1-800-Go-Bulls The Horns Up Pass offers fans the most flexible season ticket option with the combined convenience of delivery to their mobile phone. Fans can choose from a $250 sideline view ticket or a $600 Club Pass ticket for all seven home games. Exact seat locations in the lower bowl will vary from game to game. Fans can link their tickets with friends and be seated together or purchase tickets for guests . Fans can also return upcoming game tickets that they are unable to use for credits on seat upgrades or guest tickets at future games. 5. 04/18/19 Tampa, FL - Sophomore Baron Stuart delivered just what the Bulls needed - an with inning, five hit performance in which he gave up just one run. The Citadel managed a run in the top of the first when they got to Stuart for two hits in their first two at bats. Leadoff hitter Ryan McCarthy singled and stole second before being singled home by Tyler Corbitt. The Bulls would get out of the inning with a line drive double play. The Bulls didn't respond with a run until Joe Genord third inning single drove home Kyle Phillips who led off the frame with a single to center. But, in the fifth and eight innings the Bulls would explode for four runs. Highlights from the four run fourth included a Jake Sullivan solo shot, followed later in the inning by a Chris Chatfield two run double to right center. Julio Cortez followed Chatfield with a run-scoring single to close the scoring. In the eight, the Bulls got started with a walk to Alex Bello. Add a Phillips single and an intentional pass to Genord and the table was set for Chatfield to smack a grand slam for some real nice insurance scoring. The Bulls finished with 13 hits total. Stuart was relieved by Brandon Schrepf. Schrepf struck out to of the three batters he faced, sitting the side down in order. Reminder: Due to impending weather, there is no Friday game. Instead a doubleheader will be played Saturday with the first batter at 11 a.m.
  6. Tampa, FL - The South Florida Bulls baseball team extended its losing streak to four games in a span that has seen losses in 12 of their last 15. The Bulls dropped a midweek game Tuesday to the University of North Florida Ospreys, 5-3. The Bulls also lost to the Ospreys last month, 7-2. Again, early pitching problems bothered the Bulls. USF started Noah Yager, who had recently thrown on Sunday against Tulane (1.1 shutout innings in relief). Yager could not get out of the first inning allowing a leadoff double then walking a batter before getting his first out. But, Yager followed that out with another walk loading the bases. Yager was yanked with the bags full and Dylan Burns entered with just one out. Burns proceeded to hit a batsman bringing in the first Osprey run. Next, Burns would allow a sacrifice fly to put the Bulls down two runs before ever coming to bat. The Bulls stampeded back in the bottom of the third, claiming a 3-2 lead on five hits and two North Florida errors. All five hits were singles, two of the runs were earned. But as we have seen in recent Bulls fashion, it was a see-saw affair. No sooner had the Bulls taken the lead that they handed it back with two UNF runs in the top of the 6th and one more in the top of the 8th. The Bulls were shut out for the final 6 innings, mustering just two hits in that long stretch of scoreless ball. Now at 15-20, the Bulls will have a couple days to prepare for a 3 game non-conference set against The Citadel in a rare Thursday - Saturday schedule.
  7. After a 20-14 Saturday affair, Sunday looked a little more like college baseball. Still, the Bulls lost, securing their spot at the bottom of the conference standings despite a challenge from the UCF Knights - a team that took two of three from the Bulls - and Wichita State. South Florida is now 2-10 in conference play, Wichita State 3-6 and UCF 4-8. Tulane moves to second in The American with a 7-2 record, trailing only East Carolina (8-1). The Bulls gave up two runs in the first and ultimately six runs through the first six innings, staking a 5-0 lead after five. The Bulls offense did its only damage in the top of the sixth when it erupted for four runs, only to give one back in the bottom half and end the scoring for the day. The Bulls starter, senior Alec Wisely, was charged with five earned runs in four innings of work. The loss is his fourth to go with two wins. Noah Yager and Nelson Alvarez completed the last four innings. Yager got touched for a run while Alvarez, struggling with control and walking the bases full, completed 2 2/3 scoreless innings. While only scoring in the sixth frame, the offense was able to boast on a couple of extended hitting streaks. Alex Bello has now hit in nine straight and Chris Chatfield in seven. Not a batter in lineup more than one hit today as the six Bulls hits were spread around. The Bulls return to Tampa to face North Florida on Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. at the USF Baseball Stadium.

  9. New Orleans, LA - Every chance created was a chance wasted by the South Florida Bulls. The Bulls mounted two significant comebacks only to wash them away at the bottom of the inning at Turchin Stadium. Trailing 5-1, the Bulls managed to make it a one run game by putting together a three run top of the 5th, only to yield nine runs in the bottom of the 5th. Later, in the game, trailing 14-4, the Bulls manufactured a seven run inning, pulling to within three runs. But in the bottom of that same inning, the 7th, the Bulls gave back six runs to fall behind 20-11 and it would remain that way until the end. USF's starter, Collin Sullivan, exited amid the nine run 5th, finishing up with eight earned runs given up in just 4 2/3 innings. The Bulls' next two pitchers, Richie Cruz and Logan Lyle, combined to get through just a combined two innings. The duo surrendered six earned runs in that brief span. The Bulls' bats did try to help. The top three in the lineup - Phillips, Sullivan and Santos - each hammered out three hits, with Phillips adding a round-tripper. Joe Genord, who homered last night, jacked his 11th with a pair on. That's two losses in two days to Tulane. Sunday, the erratic Bulls will try to avoid the sweep - the same position they found themselves in last Sunday when they defeated UCF 6-3 at Orlando. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. eastern.
  10. Tampa, Fl - It was White vs. Green today in the South Florida Football Spring Game. The annual game in 2019 did not feature split squads, but instead the offense (White) against the Defense (Green) - with some different scoring. The 109 (73-36, White wins) points were earned as following: Offense: TD: 6 pts Extra Point: 1 pt FG: 3 pts Big play (15+ yards): 2 pts 4th down conversion: 1 pt Defense: 3 & out: 3 pts 4th down stop: 1 pt Turnover: 4 pts Safety: 2 pts TD: 7 pts The White squad started off the scrimmage with a one-play (big play) passing touchdown from Blake Barnett to tight end Mitch Wilcox, good for 75 yards eight points in about six seconds. The offense never looked back, establishing a lead on that play and never allowing the defense to surpass them in points. In a game structure that limited contact with the quarterbacks, it should be expected that the offense would have an advantage - and why risk injury at this point, anyway? Regardless, the defense still responded, getting on track with a couple of interceptions in the game. Barnett (8/16/1, 135 yards) wasn't the only quarterback tossing a TD today, redshirt freshman Jordan McCloud added two touchdowns on 17 of 25 passing (one INT). His long went for 36 yards. Octavious Battle, also a redhsirt freshman contributed two TDs himself while completing 8 of 12 passes for 146 yards. His long toss was good for 55 yards. Battle also joined the interception ranks, leaving each QB with one. Johnny Ford led receivers with six catches for 30 yards and a TD. Senior Stanley Clerveaux added five catches for 59 yards while sophomore Randall St.Felix caught three for 54 yards. Trevon Sands led on the ground with a net of 18 yards on four carries. 12. New Orleans, LA The USF Bulls opened up their fourth American Athletic series last night against the Tulane Green Wave. The Bulls, occupying the bottom of The American standings (15-17, 2-8) struggled mightily offensively while their pitching continues to offer up scoring opportunities for the opponent. The final was Tulane 9, Bulls 2. We haven't talked defense, but let's do. Just six of the nine runs were earned as the Bulls added two errors to the mix. The Bulls starter, Baron Stuart, gave up an early run in the bottom of the first before giving up a two run homer in the third. The Bulls would respond in the fourth with a run on a Joe Genord solo shot - his 10th of the season. The Bulls finished with five hits with the only other extra base hit a double by Tyler Dietrich. Dylan Burns relieved Stuart in the bottom of the fourth and provide a couple of innings of scoreless relief until the bottom of the seventh getting touched for three runs. Burns would start the eight inning as well, but not escape until three more runs were surrendered. Pat Doudican relieved Burns, finishing up a costly inning. South Florida has now dropped nine of its last twelve ball games and has yet to win an American Athletic series. The Bulls will face the Green Wave in Game Two today at 3 p.m. Colin Sullivan, the team's #1, will pitch the Saturday game again. You can catch the game's live stream on the Tulane site.
  13. The Spring Game is a campus homecoming type event in which fans in the Tampa Bay area should be in attendance. Take a look at the day's activities and you'll agree being there beats the couch. But being there is not always possible, and thousands of Bulls fans live outside the Bay Area or state. The IdentityTB is again providing high definition live video of the USF Spring Game. You can join the live stream at TheIdentityTB.com or download the Identity App. Of course, on either, you'll be able to hear long time Bulls announcer Jim Louk call the game along with former Bull Sam Barrington. Be there, or watch it. Either way this is your chance. You are invited to watch the game and join us at TheBullsPen.com for post game - or in game - analysis.
  14. Ahh...it's that time of year where we get our needed dose of USF Football. The Spring Game. Sure, its like an NBA or NFL All-Star game where no one really goes 100%,, but it's intended to be a fun glimpse of where the team is. Fans can pay more attention to routes, timing and camaraderie and leave it the season to see Jon Lejiste-like eardrum ringing hits. A few seasons ago, Spring Games were held at Raymond James Stadium. It was a large venue for a "real" fan event. Now on campus, the Athletic Department can tie so much more into the day including pre and post-game activities to engage fans of all ages. Also, there are a couple of tailgate areas set up for Bulls Club donors and season ticket holders. Just take a look at this tailgate put together for season ticket holders: Season Ticket Holder Spring Game Tailgate Exclusive access to a beer garden with food and other beverages provided! Special appearances from USF coaches and former players from multiple sports! Win prizes and raffle items, including helmets, jerseys, and other apparel! Participate in eight skills testing stations and five display areas that will be part of Fan Pro Day starting at 11 AM on Elm Drive outside Corbett Stadium! There will be a live DJ and of course Rocky will be covering ground out and among the fans. Add to this prize giveaways, the Herd of Thunder and a FOOTBALL GAME and you have all you need for a spring Saturday. When the game kicks off be in your seats and be ready. The Bulls will be debuting a new offense directed by new USF Offensive Coordinator, Kerwin Bell. One of Bell's favorite hashtags is #PlayFastScoreFaster. His designs are to stretch the field and not run when the block is stacked and not throw when the secondary expects it. Talk of his offense is increasing hopes of a powerful Bulls scoring machine. Seeing this new "pro-style" offense, even if against a "spring game defense" will be enough to whet the appetite for the Fall. Get to Corbett Stadium early. The spring game is free, you can expect a big crowd of curious Bulls fans. It's being heard that several former Bulls will be on hand as well. Grab a Spring Prospectus here:
  15. Chicago, Illinois 09/15/2018 The Bulls entered the fourth quarter Saturday down 19-7 to Illinois. The Bulls defense had already begun to take the game back, holding the Illiini to just three points in the second half, coming on a Chase McLaughlin field goal with just under three minutes left in the third quarter. The Bulls’ offense, stymied much of the afternoon by drops, errant passes and penalties, finally found the rhythm in two scoring drives totaling 4:20. Both were called as “Blake Barnett to Darnell Salomon” with the first on a jump ball to the corner of the end zone on a Barnett rollout. The second a “blown coverage” pass down field in which Salomon bobbled the pass in open space but softly and surely pulled it in as he strode across the goal line for the 50 yard score. The two late touchdowns were in stark contrast to the previous three quarters of frustration which saw the Bulls running well, but struggling to score. A penalty negated a potential earlier score. So too, did the Bulls reluctance to kick in a couple of early fourth down situations. Add another penalty and the Bulls are punting instead of kicking for points. Leading the Bulls on the ground was Jordan Cronkrite who totaled 136 yards on 22 touches. It was Cronkrite’s three yard rushing TD (and PAT) that tallied the Bulls only points in the first three quarters. Barnett finished with 411 yards as the Bulls out-gained the Illini 626-380. Barnett added the two touchdowns to Salomon and ran for 17 yards. Barnett’s 411 passing yards were spread to Randall St. Felix (120 yards on 6 receptions), Mitchell Wilcox (109 yards on 8 receptions, career high yards, program high receptions by a tight end) and Darnell Salomon (95 yards on 5 receptions). Wide receiver Tyre McCants added 77 yards on 3 catches, including this incredible effort in a key fourth quarter drive. But it was the defense that turned the tide against Illinois, mush like against Georgia Tech a week ago. In addition to stifling the Illini’s ability to score beyond a field a goal in the second half, many defensive leaders set career highs. Linebacker Nico Sawtelle tallied a career high 13 tackles, Khalid McGee a career high 14 tackles and freshman Nick Roberts got his first start and totaled a career best 7 tackles. Defensive tackle Kevin Kelgler had another key and punishing QB sack late in this one. Kegler totaled 1.5 sacks a new high for the big man. That’s five in a row against “Power 5” opponents and the second in two seasons against the Fighting Illini. The Bulls return home to Raymond James Saturday for the conference opener against East Carolina.

  17. September 15, 2018 The South Florida Bulls (2-0) resume play this weekend at Soldier Field against host Illinois (2-0). The Fighting Illini are off to an unimpressive start in 2018, coming from behind to beat both Kent State and Western Illinois at home. A win today would make the Illini 3-0, the first time since 2011 to reach that mark. During fall practice Lovie Smith remarked to writers that year three is the year to expect big results. Well, this week is the first week of potential big results. The Bulls are coming off a confidence boosting win over Georgia Tech and may still remember the 47-23 beating provided to the Illini in another NFL stadium – Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. USF is also looking to extend its streak of five straight wins over P5 programs. Big question marks exist for Illinois as a number of suspended players and injuries leave the roster depleted. Five suspended players impact the defensive backfield and some offensive positions. Coach Lovie Smith has not been clear on when the suspended players will return. They have been practicing, allegedly, on the practice squad this week. The Illini will feature a strong ground game, averaging 258.5 yards per game, good for 27th in the nation. It’s a balanced attack with running backs Reggie Corbin and Mike Epstein each totaling more than 130 yards through two games. South Florida struggled to stop the Yellowjacket ground game one week ago, surrendering 419 yards on the ground to the Tech triple option. Last season, the Bulls feasted on the return of former Buccaneer coach Lovie Smith and his flimsy Illinois defense. Quinton Flowers threw for four touchdowns and ran for another in the lopsided affair. Blake Barnett, the USF transfer QB, will look to keep his hot hand serving up completions to a stable of gifted receivers. Barnett is averaging more than 250 passing yards per game and an additional 58 on the ground, many of which came last week against an ACC defense. The Bulls are not without injury themselves and are hoping to see their leading rusher, Duran Bell, return as well as fellow running back Jordan Cronkite. A potential trap game for the Bulls coming off the win over Georgia Tech. First game away from Raymond James and with the first American Athletic Conference game at home next week, this game could end up a lot closer than Bulls fans and Illinois writers believe it will be. Still, the Florida Speed and skill players put this one out of reach for Lovie and the Illini, Bulls win 41-20.

  19. USF Bulls Can Swat the Yellow Jackets in Week 2 The Bulls recorded their first win of the season, and it came against the Elon Phoenix, 34-14. The story of the day was the Arizona State transfer, Blake Barnett and his performance in his USF debut. He looked strong, completing 24 of 34 for 305 yards. Not only did Barnett bomb Elon with three TD passes, but he trucked one in on the ground as well. This Saturday, September 8th at 12:00 pm the USF Bulls will host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Raymond James Stadium. Even though the Bulls are at home, they are coming in as the underdogs to Georgia Tech. With the legalization of sports betting in various states, wagering on college football is becoming more and more popular. If you plan on wagering money on the Bulls or other teams, be sure to check and compare online outlets like Bovada to make sure that you are secure. What Happened in Week 1 The Yellow Jackets pounded the ball on the ground against the Alcorn State Braves. Granted, it isn’t saying much considering the defensive front that Georgia Tech was facing, but 439 rushing yards is still something that needs to be noted. Despite a 41-0 win, the Yellow Jackets didn’t look great. Paul Johnson even stated, “I didn’t like how we played, considering who we were playing.” QB, TaQuon Marshall threw a pick in the first half as well as several bad throws. RB, Jordan Mason, gave up the ball with a fumble. And Shawn Davis, the placekicker, booted one directly into the uprights during a routine PAT. The competition wasn’t fierce against the Phoenix, but Elon is tougher than Alcorn State by a longshot. It’s Charlie Strong’s second year, and this could be where things really start to come together under his tenure. A big win against a traditionally more powerful program like GT would go a long way in solidifying a big bowl game for the Bulls. Bulls Can Swat the Jackets Yes, the Yellow Jackets are the favorites, but many models actually show the Bulls winning this game by a touchdown. Georgia Tech has only won one out of their last five road games and is 3-5 over their last eight games. Meanwhile, USF is 8-2 over their last 10. It’s a team in decline against a team on the rise. Barnett will continue to drop bombs all over the Georgia Tech secondary. Remember, he was recruited under Nick Saben before transferring over to the Sun Devils. He has a great target in Randall St. Felix, and they could hook up for a couple of touchdowns. But the biggest issues for the Yellow Jackets is they have to face the USF defense. Georgia Tech played sloppily against a team that could be beaten by some high school programs. The USF secondary pulled down 15 interceptions last year, and the Alcon State Braves were able to get a pick off GT. If they go to the air, there will be turnovers. So the Yellow Jackets are likely to keep the ball on the ground. They will score, but in a shootout where one team can effectively launch the ball down the field and score quickly against one that has to rely on the run game, the outcome will favor the passing team. USF gets the win in a tough surface and air battle.
