  1. USF would effectively become FIU if CJS is fired at the “wrong” time. And with the current climate in CFB (and general), it wouldn’t surprise me to find out that USF isn’t pulling the plug because they genuinely like him and what he brings to the department at the moment in other facets while hoping the wins eventually stack up for him rather than prospecting/projecting for the next guy.
  2. Gonna be an expensive ticket to attend a game as well.
  3. While that is true, I think that assessment would be quite different if receivers were holding onto catchable passes.
  4. Based on what? We didn’t make the advancements with facilities when that was the way CFB was going. USF is finally throwing it all (facilities) together a decade and change (arguably) too late. Now we’re in the CFP-NIL era. Yes, we’re seeing some progress there (Big Thanks to Brad, Grothe and applicable company) but nowhere near what’s necessary to compete with those who were once considered our “peers” in this current age.
  5. A very good point. Our starting “weapons” were not out there to make a difference in the passing game and it showed very early. Members of this board knew that was a possibility based on reactions once news came out that Weaver and Horn were out today along with Ajou. However, that doesn’t absolve the team for how lethargic they performed overall though.
  6. The recency bias on this board is astounding considering how many members have degrees. Timmy was an awful decision maker (yes, as a true freshman for what that’s worth) and relied primarily on his legs which got him into more trouble than not. We saw concrete evidence that his running didn’t amount to much. GB has been a bit antsy with putting force on his throws. The vast majority of them heading in the right direction and hitting receivers right in the hands; receivers just weren’t/aren’t catching these 50/50 balls. That can be corrected. He made A TON of plays last night that I’m confident Timmy just wouldn’t have made. Considering the praise this coaching staff and team is receiving for last night’s game, people are choosing to forget that the coaches went with GB for a myriad of transparent reasons. It was made clear early in camp and coaches and players are on record making it clear that GB was the leader (and best player) for the team at QB.
  7. That’s my ultimate takeaway re: GB. He’s putting a little too much zip on his passes. Our receivers just don’t have the hands to catch passes that don’t have the right amount of touch or aren’t right in the breadbasket. Once that gets figured out, oh boy.
  8. Bohannon is head and shoulders above Timmy. Is he risky with the ball early? Yes. The guy is trying to make plays. That can be corrected. He overthrew quite a few balls yesterday but his touch got better as the game progressed. Our team is not ready to play an SEC team right now; SHOCKER. If you are looking to see if this team get beat up next week, you will get your wish because that is the expectation. Like expecting rain in July down here.
  9. People here forget how much “bend-don’t-break” defense gets played at the G5 level. We were without starters on the defense and the ones that are on the roster, in general, are carryovers from the CCS era. Is our d-line an issue? Absolutely. And so is that the plight of most teams at this level. We are definitely a better team than the last 2 seasons; granted, I don’t even want to count the 2020 season. Once Gerry and the team got settled and saw some points on the board, they played better. Again, that is the case for most teams in college football. This team is more confident and talented than we have seen under CJS thus far. They just need to play like it consistently. And I think we will see that more as we get into conference play. 4-5 wins (with a surprise sprinkled) is in front of this team. Olé! (Go Bulls. )
  10. My connection is using something people like to hopefully rope interest in something else. Happens all the time. Regarding the tailgate, yes, I guess…
  11. That’s fair but I feel that it’s an opportunity worth putting some moderate term investment in that element. But to be clear, I mean tailgating in the same sense as football. A Free cookout ain’t cuttin’ it by itself. For those not familiar with how Greek life at USF actually operates, the way they tailgate football is not USF sanctioned, but no real alternatives have been offered. The distance that Greek tailgate “lots” are from RJ is enough for kids to hop on the buses (that go straight to the lot) and head back home rather than stay for the game. Hard to do that right there on campus staring at the gameplay right in front of you and less hoops to jump through to get in. No comparison to football. Basketball is an after thought (Men vs Women for different reasons, of course).
  12. It’s easy to forget that we have quite a few successful programs that are in need of dedicated fandom as well. I’m hoping admin works with more students to build the home game experience to something more akin to an SEC-type energy. —— Sidebar Rant: It blew my mind as a student (‘13-‘17) that we didn’t have a tailgating culture (or at least the encouragement of one) for baseball during home weekends. Not sure if this has changed (it’s been a few years) but iutdoor, on-campus events like soccer and baseball/softball games should have more things guiding people to the stands (say like Minor league baseball does). Encouraging tailgating (at least hiring a DJ and plan space for it), and getting SunDolls/Cheerleaders with free merch walking around. It was a blast going to those games (wins; not so much the losing), especially with my degenerate fraternity buddies. I recall us being on edge when we started organizing meet ups for BB games. But quickly realized no one was going to care cause no one went to the games. Not sure if this changed too, but by my graduation we had developed a trend of linking up for games on the weekends. Football isn’t doing well, Basketball is in shambles; wouldn’t hurt to make Baseball/Softball focal points of student/alumni engagement and work on this experience with the smaller sports as momentum is rolling on a Football OCS. —— TL;DR - A robust Baseball/Softball tailgating culture could be amazing for USF.
  13. That, I agree with for sure. I envision more like a KJ Sails, working with admin on PR, fundraising, or an Auggie working with the scouting/recruitment department. More Sam Barrington types wouldn’t hurt.
  14. I’m not actually. We’ve tried quite a few of combinations in my 12+ years of fandom/being a student-alum. I haven’t experienced a period where “homers” were running shop. Unfortunately, my experience has been one consistent instability. Maybe getting some more people with Green and Gold goggles may help, but within merit. I’m confident there are roles that would fit perfectly for a few more on staff and wouldn’t be a reach, but an ideal opportunity instead. Lord knows we need as many points of optimism and hope possible moving into another year…
  15. Who says that they wouldn’t be great on staff together? Get Auggie back in there too while you’re at it. I’d bet he’d kill it on the recruiting trail.
  16. Let’s be honest here, we’ve given those out to quite a few people less. He’s well liked among the base despite his lackluster record in the last 2-3 seasons. It would be better to keep someone we actually like around and help with other things like fundraising (for a lot less than he’s getting paid now). Just have to keep him far away from the team (and coaching search) for a year or two.
  17. Any thoughts on him moving into a staff/fundraising role, similar to the Lelo Prado route?
  18. He had a resume that was highly sought after. That’s not a surprise. The mess he was walking into, however, was. The potential on both sides were there to succeed with a commitment to facilities and his potential success as a coach. The world changed, and so did the job. I have no issue with his statement there. The chasm between levels have grown significantly. The AAC can’t continue the farce after getting poached and adding teams like Rice to replace them. We are where we are. And to be fair, he hypes up the coming facilities and the team culture up a lot. There’s confidence around the incoming class too. His talks with the media are a lot different from the talks with admin or the team. He’s being honest (as allowed) with the public for once, since when was that a bad thing? Dancing and singing around the truth is how we got here.
  19. I thought I was a “man” at that age too. Life taught me otherwise, quickly. I’m only 26 now and feel like I still have quite a way to go. My 22-24 y/o siblings are “kids” to me because of the understanding they have and exercise. It’s all relative but I get why many people call 17/18 people “kids”.
  20. It hurts being someone that everyone wanted and gave attention to, while everyone who was worth it kept leaving you publicly and in dramatic fashion. C. is that attractive person that can’t get anyone to commit long term. And it’s starting to weigh on them (Oregon as well, ironically).
  21. So I was listening to the Split Zone Duo podcast (good listen for CFB insider info ) and heard about a last minute move by UVA admin to approve divesting endowment funds ($10.3 mil) to kickstart a facilities project. The belief is that this approval was done to get Tony Elliot (CJS’ other half back up north) convinced to become HC. Considering the perceived fever pitch of demand for an OCS, could anyone see this being a possibility? Or even to just finish funding the new facilities and move on to OCS fundraising? Do you think it should be considered if an institution like UVA was willing to? https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/32838240/virginia-cavaliers-hire-clemson-tigers-oc-tony-elliott-head-football-coach https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jsus-coup-oregon-clemson-and-bowls/id1532830225?i=1000545109263
