  1. http://www.gatorsports.com/article/20140329/ARTICLES/140329542/1136/gatorssoftball?p=all&tc=pgall This was the article I was referencing in the above post. Talking about Donovan going against one of his ex assistants.
  2. I agree....AG would be a great pick up for USF. Far better than Heath. I hadn't even thought of him.
  3. With all the talk of UNLV offering an extension to Rice, and the way Dayton played Florida so well, I can only think that Ostrom is a great choice. Pelphry might think he's too big for our program now. There have been quite a few articles as of late talking about Ostrom. The link below caught my eye. Even though it didn't pan out like Dayton planned, I think Dayton did a pretty good scouting job on the short notice they had. Florida was just the better team in this situation. They have probably the least overall talent still playing, but I don't think any team plays better as a unit than them. Dayton more than had their hands full. Either way, I think a Pelphry and Ostrom reunion here would be a great fit. If not that, let's go for Ostrom, save some money by not going after the big name coaches and wrap up a relentless recruiter and a dedicated coach. Just my two cents.
  4. We'll see. I think its a lot easier for a guy like Rice to recruit players to UNLV since he played there and has direct ties. Not to mention, it's gotta be easy to recruit guys to come out to Las Vegas. I was hoping for a hire that would build our program so we don't miss out on players in our back yard like Michael Frazier II to name one. So many great players in our state, I just think that's how we should begin the building of our program. Football used that same stategy a few years back, stealing recruits from the other Florida schools. It will take a lot of selling to get the players to come play for us.
  5. I'm still holding out for a different coach. Dave Rice doesn't do it for me. He took a pretty decent Lon Kruger team and maintained it. We need someone to build this program through strong recruiting. I see John Pelphry or Tom Ostrom (or both) to be ideal candidates. They have strong ties to Florida athletes and we're missing out on a lot of talent in our own state. Rice doesn't seem to have any ties to Florida. I'm hoping UNLV counter offers our deal and Rice stays. We'll see how this all pans out. What are every else's thoughts?
  6. I think the Florida Sunshine would be a welcome change to the sub zero temperatures and snow....especially after the winter they went through this year. That alone has to be an attraction one would think. For Billy Donovan to give this guy a 2006 Championship ring even though he had already left the Florida coaching staff speaks volumes of what this guy is capable of.
  7. Thanks Paisa....and yes, it should be an interesting ride to say the least. I'm kind of torn between coaches right now. Michael White sounds like he'd be a great hire. But after seeing Dayton play, I'm a believer in their staff. I'd love to see Archie Miller come our way, but with him just signing the extension, it looks like he isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Let's let it play out and see what happens I guess. I know we all jump on these coaching staffs that over succeed in the tournament cuz their the hottest things out there at the time, so hopefully we don't make a hasty hire. But Ostrom has the praise of Donovan. So who knows....like you said, hang on for a bumpy ride!
  8. Thanks Hem for the feedback and the welcome! Thank you too Bulliever! Glad to be a part of this new era!
  9. I'm a USF grad and this is my first time posting to these forums, but I have been a follower for awhile. I have a suggestion for a possible coaching candidate. I know we all know who John Pelphrey is. And I think he'd be a great hire. However, after following Dayton in the Tournament this year and doing some research, I think Tom Ostrom should be mentioned as at least a thought. He got started in Minnesota and worked his way up the Florida team to assistant coach. Then he followed Pelphrey from team to team before he landed at Dayton. I read this article yesterday and thought he might be the tenacious recruiter we need to start bringing some of the state of Florida's talent to USF. What are your opinions on this guy? Not enough experience? Ready for the chance? Here's a link to the article I read yesterday that got me thinking. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/-college-basketball-mens-tournament/news/20140327/tommy-ostrom-dayton-south-regional/?xid=nl_siextra
