  1. It almost seems like those two basketball programs exist to ensure that USF doesn't finish dead last every year. They are to AAC basketball what UConn was to AAC football...
  2. I thought somebody was going to cite the CBS Sportsline poll that ranks all the FBS, 1-130, as the source of our ranking for this thread, which BTW, we're up an impressive 4 spots this week without even having played, to #115. Tulsa sits at #99. College Football Rankings 2021 - CBS Sports Ranking - CBSSports.com Get the latest College Football rankings for the 2021 season. 3. Any guesses as to how much Tulsa will be favored by against us? I'm guessing around a touchdown...
  4. Tulane is 1-5 on the season. Why is a W against them out of reach? Looks like a toss-up to me.
  5. In football? Yeah, why not? ANY FBS win is cause for celebration at this point, especially a win over them. In 2007, yes, beating them wasn't that big a deal, but we're looking up at them now. There's a reason they got the invite and we didn't....yet anyway. They've accomplished a lot that we haven't. Sucks, but it is what it is.
  6. ECU barely got by Charleston Southern, 31-28. I'm thinking that a W is more likely there than against Houston.
  7. Skip actually did have success before he arrived here, and after, so maybe he was more qualified, but my goodness, the Holtz-Scott comparison is utterly depressing. The team just completely quit on Skip in his last year here. This year's team has shown a lot of fight. Just a lot of youth and a depleted defense. BTW, that Miami game where Skip passed up on a couple of shots at the end zone, down 16-0, in favor of letting around 30 seconds run off to attempt the FG, they actually missed the short FG. Sums up his tenure here. Loved the win at Notre Dame, but can't forget that conservative nature of his. I'll take the potential I think I see in Scott over Skip any day.
  8. Agreed. I really don't see Scott being overly conservative at all, certainly nowhere near as conservative as Skip was.
  9. Skip was more timid. I remember him letting the clock run down from about 30 seconds to less than 5, inside the 5 yard line, with timeouts, not 3rd or 4th down, to attempt a FG just before half. He pulled that nonsense twice, vs. Cincy & Miami. Had the entire stadium booing. That kind of crap was nauseating. He did manage to pull a couple of big wins out of his arse somehow, but his style of coaching was just awful I thought. He would get slightly aggressive on offense when they were behind, then get ultra conservative with the slightest lead. So many games came down to the wire because of that. I remember him pointing out that they went 5-7, but were 6 plays away from 11-1. Was the Skip tenure worse than Strong's? It's a toss-up IMO.
  10. We actually had 7 TFL against SMU, our best number yet in that category this season. Also managed to get an INT. Anybody else want to make a desperate attempt at finding a silver lining on defense?
  11. I've wanted to see more of Battie as well, especially in the SMU game. Mangham was just straight ahead into a brick wall every time it seemed, and ended up with 11 carries for 21 yards. Battie went 7 for 46. Hopefully Battie gets the bulk of the carries vs. Tulsa with Mangham in short yardage situations.
  12. Yep, and 3 of the 4 overall. The other might be one of our W's on Black Friday
  13. There's a possibility that Houston could be ranked, or at least receiving votes, by the time we play them
  14. Agreed. Two missed deep passes that were both certain touchdowns. Then we go from the 2 yard line to 3rd and 15 because of stupid penalties, and end up settling for a FG. The last play of the first half where Timmy held the ball too long and burned 9 seconds, killing any chance of a FG. Brinkman dropping passes that should have been caught. The opportunities were there. Just couldn't quite execute. I still believe Scott will get this turned around at some point, but this year, as most of us knew, has been and probably will continue to be somewhat painful. Yes, there were a few series in the second half where the defense was able to pressure Mordecai. As bad as they've been this year, seemed like there was maybe a glimmer of hope on that side of ball. Hopefully they blitz a little more going forward. Frustrating seeing them sit back and picked apart week after week.
  15. We're right where I thought we'd be. Wasn't really expecting a win over SMU. I would expect a win in at least one of our next three though (Tulsa, Temple, or ECU).
  16. I haven't watched a Tulsa game this year, but saw the highlights of those two games. They were very much in those games late in the 4th. Looks like they should have won against OK State. They did lose to UC Davis though, and lost 45-10 to Houston. Only win was 41-34 to Arkansas State. I realize that nothing is a gimme for us, but if we're going to beat an FBS team in 2021, this looks as good a chance as any. A boost in morale is desperately needed here. Two weeks to get ready. Home game. No excuses here.
  17. We have two weeks to prepare for a home game against a 1-4 Tulsa team that lost to UC Davis. If we don't get a W there, 1-11 is not out of the question. I'm guessing we do beat Tulsa though, and end up with around 4 wins on the season. Every game will be an adventure though...
  18. Agreed. The next game will be Tulsa at home. Tulsa played Oklahoma St. tough, losing 28-23 on the road.....OK State who's 5-0 and top 20, but, Tulsa also lost to UC Davis. Haven't seen them play this year, and not sure what to expect, but on paper this looks like one that we have to win if we're ever going to get any kind of momentum going this season. A Tulsa loss at home would be really discouraging no matter how it happens.
  19. I've read on a few sites that the MWC is considering adding North Dakota State. Not sure what that does for them as far as strengthening the conference... Report: Mountain West has Discussed Adding NDSU Football if Conference Realigns - KVRR Local News
  20. All uniform combos have looked sharp, expect that neon green combo vs. UCF last season. Reminded me of the old Orlando Thunder unis from the World League...
  21. The best college football uniforms in Week 5 -- Throwbacks, blackouts, and some serious helmet heat Along with the exciting Week 5 action, college football teams...
  22. Yep. We beat 12 seed Cal and 5 seed Temple before losing to Ohio back in 2011-12
  23. I'm wondering if they should give Joiner a try as a slot receiver. Always thought he looked explosive. He's only had 13 attempts in 4 games. Would like to see them find a way to incorporate him into the offense a little more somehow...
  24. Hopefully they don't yank the rug from under everybody's feet by announcing another feasibility study....
