So, 73 days out, how many at USF v Wisconsin?
What are the thoughts?

Big name team.  Home and Season Opener.  Cold, clean uniforms.  #PlayFastScoreFaster

Will there be enough (we must do our share) of hype and activity to create a groundswell of interest and fans to want to get to RJS that Friday in August?

Are we on the under or over of 50,000?

Out on a limb against Wisconsin
We are going to win by 13!!

Reasons:

I think we will get out early and be up by 14 at the half.

Kerwin Bell is that impressive and we bulked up and added enough size and talent from the portal to stop a heavy run offense. I think Studstill will be a man on a mission in the Box. The DL is much improved and will have depth. We are good on the ends.

My only concern is lb play and with Macon coming in and Greer, Broyles (sp) Lainge and Mims...hopefully the DL can keep the guards off of them

Secondary: Studstill, Burnett, Lapointe and Hampton...All are capable and can tackle in space. Davis and Evans can provide relief. If Sails is eligible then Hampton will have to elevate his game and tackle better.

I'm curious on Waller, Leacock and Kirby.

If we start Sanders or Roberts in the secondary it will be a very long afternoon.

I still think that 2 or 3 more will show up from portal.

4/26/19

Tampa, FL - Bulls sophomore Baron Stuart enjoyed another deep outing, pitching seven innings against the Houston Cougars (25-17) Friday night at the USF Baseball Stadium.  He gave up three runs early, but settled down to complete seven IP and spare the USF bulls pen.  In his last outing, Stuart went eight innings, yielding just one run to The Citadel.  Tonight, his line included five hits, two walks and two strikeouts.  Nelson Alvarez closed it out, pitching the final two innings giving up no hits or walks and striking out three.  Alvarez lowered his season ERA to 2.49.
Stuart surrendered two runs in the second inning when he gave up three consecutive hits to the Coogs.  With one out, Houston's  Rey Fuentes doubled.  Houston's Derrick Cherry followed with a single before Kobe Hyland doubled down the right field line to score both runners.  Thanks to a line out and a fielder's choice, Stuart got out of the inning giving up just two runs.   The Coogs also added a run in the fourth when Cherry smashed a solo home run to left center.

The Bulls put up one run in the 5th inning when Austin Bodrato led off with a single to center.  Tyler Dietrich flied out before freshman Alex Bello doubled to left center, scoring Bodrato.

The Bulls trailed until a three run sixth put them up a run.  The inning started with a Jordan Santos single.  Joe Genord flied out and Chris Chatfield wallked.  Julio Cortez greeted a Houston pitching substitution with an RBI single to right field.  Bodrato followed with a walk before Tyler Dietrich met a third Houston pitcher.  Then the Coogs' wheels came off.  On Dietrich's fielder's choice, combined with a Houston throwing error, Bodrato and Chatfield crossed the plate.

The Bulls added a final, insurance run, in the eighth when Bello again knocked in Bodrato.  This time with a single to right field.

Baron Stuart Leads Bulls to Win over The Citadel
04/18/19

Tampa, FL - Sophomore Baron Stuart delivered just what the Bulls needed - an with inning, five hit performance in which he gave up just one run.  The Citadel managed a run in the top of the first when they got to Stuart for two hits in their first two at bats.  Leadoff hitter Ryan McCarthy singled and stole second before being singled home by Tyler Corbitt.  The Bulls would get out of the inning with a line drive double play.
The Bulls didn't respond with a run until Joe Genord third inning single drove home Kyle Phillips who led off the frame with a single to center.

But, in the fifth and eight innings the Bulls would explode for four runs.   Highlights from the four run fourth included a Jake Sullivan solo shot, followed later in the inning by a Chris Chatfield two run double to right center.  Julio Cortez followed Chatfield with a run-scoring single to close the scoring.

In the eight, the Bulls got started with a walk to Alex Bello.  Add a Phillips single and an intentional pass to Genord and the table was set for Chatfield to smack a grand slam for some real nice insurance scoring.

The Bulls finished with 13 hits total.  Stuart was relieved by Brandon Schrepf.  Schrepf struck out to of the three batters he faced, sitting the side down in order.

Reminder:  Due to impending weather, there is no Friday game. Instead a doubleheader will be played Saturday with the first batter at 11 a.m.

AAC Not Even a Mention
UCF comes from behind in the AAC Championship vs Memphis with a back-up QB who is not even in the same realm as Jalon Hurts.  They run the table for the second year in a row and they don't even get a mention from any of the main stream sports outlets beyond their QB MM being hurt. Think college football is an equal playing field?  I don't know if UCF is one of the best 4 teams in the country, but no one has beaten them in two straight years.

Any non-P5 team could run the table and win every game 100 - 0 and not even get a sniff of the CFP.  This is why, other than USF, I could care less about CFB.  I was once a rabid fan of CFB and couldn't get enough, now, who cares.  CFB has taken the greatest sports product in the U.S. and marginalized it for me.

There are six or seven schools that matter in college football.  Everyone else is an also-ran on their best day.

Go Bulls!
