Tampa, FL - Sophomore Baron Stuart delivered just what the Bulls needed - an with inning, five hit performance in which he gave up just one run. The Citadel managed a run in the top of the first when they got to Stuart for two hits in their first two at bats. Leadoff hitter Ryan McCarthy singled and stole second before being singled home by Tyler Corbitt. The Bulls would get out of the inning with a line drive double play.
The Bulls didn't respond with a run until Joe Genord third inning single drove home Kyle Phillips who led off the frame with a single to center.
But, in the fifth and eight innings the Bulls would explode for four runs. Highlights from the four run fourth included a Jake Sullivan solo shot, followed later in the inning by a Chris Chatfield two run double to right center. Julio Cortez followed Chatfield with a run-scoring single to close the scoring.
In the eight, the Bulls got started with a walk to Alex Bello. Add a Phillips single and an intentional pass to Genord and the table was set for Chatfield to smack a grand slam for some real nice insurance scoring.
The Bulls finished with 13 hits total. Stuart was relieved by Brandon Schrepf. Schrepf struck out to of the three batters he faced, sitting the side down in order.
Reminder: Due to impending weather, there is no Friday game. Instead a doubleheader will be played Saturday with the first batter at 11 a.m.
