The new Sling TV streaming service allows access to both and it's only $20/mo and includes a bunch of channels. There are also cheap add-ons available for more channels like the Sports add on which includes all the ESPN channels including Goal Line and the Conference Channels (ie SEC Network)

Now we need to know what channels outside ESPN will have upcoming games, like the ones last season on CBS Sports and suggest those for their sports add on package.

Sling TV is for cord cutters or cord nevers.

Cons are for those with data caps. Also for most channels you can only have 1 stream at a time. I believe ESPN and HBO channels allow up to 3 simultaneously.

Pros are cost and no contract or credit check. Also you can use the WatchESPN app. This is as close as it currently gets to ala cart TV that I know about.

The channel line up changes as they add more, like the recent addition of HBO.

I have Sling TV and it works rather well. The main reason I subscribe is for USF sports. That requires the sports package for an extra $5 a month. Standard Sling TV only has ESPN included, not ESPNU, or ESPN2(I think). My total is around $27 a month after taxes. I received a free Kindle Fire TV stick for signing up for 3 months. Quality is exactly like watching cable television. There are times where it freezes for buffering or lips aren't completely synched, but these instances are rare. It has all the channels I'm interested in. Food, Travel, TNT, TBS, CNN, AMC and they recently added History and H2.

I recommend it.

The base package does include ESPN2. And with the base package you get Watch ESPN access that has access to ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN 3. The extra package adds ESPN news and I think ESPNU, as well as the conference specific networks like Longhorn and SEC as well as their NFL red zone like channels for football called Goal Line and other sports.

About time. It blew my mind for a while that in the 21st century, ESPN has no possible way to just offer their product on a standalone basis or with at least a mini-package. There are plenty of cord nevers out there like me who never would have bothered with cable that are now going to go this route.

WOW! I just cut the cable and was trying to find this conversation from last year.

Wasn't there a program to block spam and ads? or does this solve that problem?

I saw something about Sling TV a while back.  May need to give it a try.

that's the last thing ESPN wants. they get like $4 from every subscriber whether they watch or not. if they had to charge for people who actually watch then it would be closer to $12 per month(just a guess) to generate the same revenue. cable providers(becoming dumb pipes) going the way of the dodo will lead to conference shuffling being worthless. Big ten network won't get near the revenue. no way people that don't watch will be willing to pay $1.50 per month for it. all those big time contracts won't be worth anywhere near what they thought.
