He has been taking classes since January and will play next season as a 2016 JC sophomore. Montero helped guide Westchester CC to an NJCAA D1 National Tournament appearance last season as a freshman. He returned to Westchester this year, but their season was canceled due to transcript issues for several of last season’s sophomores who transferred to D1 schools. Montero didn’t play in any games this season, which is why he will be able to play as a sophomore during the 2015-16 season. He averaged 15.6 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists last season. Montero will be one of the top players in the 2016 JUCO class and is still committed to the University of South Florida. http://www.jucorecruiting.com/news_article/show/484653?referrer_id=1424455

COA might be on the Hot Seat going into his 3rd season because next season certainly isn't looking near as promising w/o Montero. The 2015 class is average at best now without an offensive skill player among the group unless 6ft SG McMurray is much better then expected on the D1 level. It's going to be very interesting what kind of spring class this now desperate staff can put together. Need guys that can put points on the board. We have hustle guys and rebounders in Sanchez and Da Silva we need offensive skilled guys badly for next season.

He's good as long as he wants to stay for a minimum of 5-7 losing seasons.

Nice to see he is still committed to USF for the future and that might help land someone else. I suspect that COA was aware of his status for awhile and has other viable options. Let's see what happens, before wringing our hands.

You've been around for at least 3 years so you should know by now that Vega loves to project USF coaches being on the hot seat years down the line based strictly on recruiting ... but I don't know if COA survives 5 losing seasons in this conference, though .... but that is a long long way off and hopefully Coach gets things pulled together in the next couple of years. With nothing ever being released about his signing, it was kind of obvious that something was up ... add to that, the crap going on with his school and this really isn't a big surprise. I'm just basing my 5-7 on historical data, most recently Stan Heath. All COA needs to do to have a fairly long career at USF is have a good season and he'll be set for a few years if he wants...well that was how Doug Woolard managed things. I don't know if that flies with our new AD. Time will tell.
