BAXTER COMMITS TO USF
Evan DanielsEvan Daniels
Director of Recruiting
This story was originally published on ScoutHoops.com.
Three-star forward Troy Baxter made his college choice on Friday.

In the end, Troy Baxter, a 6-foot-7 forward out of Gainesville (Fla.) The Rock School, wanted to stay close to home.
So on Friday, Baxter pulled the trigger for South Florida, according to AAU coach Jordan Fair.

"I believe the relationship he has built with those guys and the confidence they show in him as a player," Fair told Scout.
Baxter picked USF over scholarship offers from Arkansas, UConn, Kansas State, Temple and Texas Tech.

"Troy has blossomed this spring and has played on a very high level," Fair told Scout. "His potential and ceiling is higher than most around the country. I think he will help USF build something special in the near future."

A terrific all around athlete, Baxter impressed on the spring circuit with his ability to get up and down the floor, sky for rebounds and throw down monstrous slams in the paint.

Don't tell him. We tried that before with another player with the same last name, who became one of the best high jumpers and ended up leaving the basketball team.

I get a kick out of CoachOA always tweeting "Horns up" when he lands a player. Of course he can't say the name, but it's a nice way of indirectly acknowledging it. Similarly, CWT tweets "Ring" when he gets a player. I don't remember any previous coaches doing that type of thing, but of course twitter hasn't been around all that long.

I'm thinking it also has a lot to do with the ages of the current coaches relative to the others.

I knew he was going to announce today, but didn't bother posting it, because I thought with all the name competition it was unlikely that he would choose USF. So, it is a very pleasant surprise. Got to give CoachOA a lot of credit in landing him. Looks like 2016 is shaping up to be a great class. Hopefully, there will be enough improvement on the court this coming season, to get some more players of his caliber.

Hopefully with Holston on the team and starring, Baxter now committed, that will help USF land teammates and friends Eric Hester and Juwan Durham who both visited yesterday. We would be talking about a big time class then.

Not sure how many bulls basketball fans are following him during AAU season but Baxter has been a huge surprise to many and has played at a very high level. Very much a steal for USF in the so called experts eyes. If he can improve his handles and he should, we're looking a **** good furture SF.
