Just making sure people realize that family weekend is nothing to do with alumni and their families .... it is a weekend for parents of current students to come to campus and spend a weekend with their student.

Dang, so the parents of students are coming in on Miami week - for many, that will mean easy on the drinking and debauchery ... advantage Miami there.

We should probably have Family Weekend in Vero, since it doesn't cost any more...

It appeals to traditional aged freshmen students who are not from the Tampa Bay area. IE - your family from out of state comes and checks up on you.

The game is picked (in the past at least) based on the date and not the opponent. They want something from late September to mid October, so that the kids who are home sick or slacking off have a chance for their families to make a positive impact on their academics.

Oh I know that. But when I was at USF it was never a big deal. My brother is a current USF student and hasn't even heard of it. My sister at UCF knows all about hers because they send out tons of mailings on it.

This. I'm graduating in May and you never hear of it in the general student conversations. My parents never had much use for it because they came to most games anyways, but friends at other schools would always post pictures online and talk about it. I've heard some pretty interesting stories involving Parents Weekend and Kens Tavern up in Tallahassee the night before an FSU game. I think it plays into some of the commuter school situation...like you said, it's for parents of kids who are likely from outside of the Bay area. Welp, that probably eliminates half of the student body right there.

Joined the darkside, did she?

I had never really heard of it, thought it was something more for sports-related families to have a special day for their parents to come see them play football and stuff. I'm currently a USF student. My main footnote though is that I've never really paid attention to things regarding my parents.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
